Morning Guys,

I’m having some trouble with a vista ultimate 64 bit install every time I get to the screen which says ‘Where do you want to install windows?’ there is no hard drive that can be selected. I have tried putting the mobo cd in and selecting load drivers but it doesn’t find anything I have also tried going onto the gigabyte website and downloading the sata/raid drivers but that doesn’t work either.

I have the system listed below, what you guys think?

I'm fairly sure I've installed Vista straight on to that board without any problems in the past.

Is the HDD showing in the BIOS?

Yes the hard drive is in the bios i've checked all the connecters and it is connected to the motherboard correctly.

Check that the sata settings in your bios are correct, you might need a sata driver on install if you have a rather old motherboard. Post your specs up and we might be able to tell.

edit my bad just spotted your specs. ..

Maybe it's something to do with Native IDE v AHCI in bios, integrated peripherals/OnChip Sata type? I seem to remember my hard drive not being seen when in AHCI, so I'm in Native IDE.

That's what i thought intially but i cant find the option to disable it in the bios?

Anyone got this board or the same bios and could direct me to where to disable it?

Yeah, you've got exactly the same board as mine, the GA-MA770-UD3. In bios, go to 'Integrated Peripherals' which is directly below 'Advanced BiOS features', then select 'OnChip Sata type' and select 'Native IDE' out of the 3 options which are AHCI, Raid and Native IDE. That's if native IDE isn't already selected. I just took pics of my bios screens which may help.

Ok still the same error under native IDE.

I just cant figure this out!

Damn. And the two parameters at the top, Onchip sata controller and Onchip IDE channel are enabled?

Maybe worth moving sata cable to a different one of the 6 sata ports on motherboard, see if that changes anything?

Plugged HDD into SATA slot 1 on MOBO was originally in Slot 2.

Also managed to get the Vista install to find the drivers on the CD in the end which it wasn't before.

Seems that way!

And thank you very much!

Although it wasnt actually my computer and i never even came into contact with it.

It was a mates and i communicated it all by txt to him!
