It took me ages to find the solution to my mysterious vanishing drive (it contained all the backup data I wanted to transfer from XP). The HD showed up fine in XP and with a linux boot disk, but not in 7.
After my hassles with the Asrock dual sata drivers, I was looking for a more complicated solution, and was guilty of ignoring proper debugging protocal .
In my defence I should've been in bed, er... 4 hours ago.
Anyway, at least my stupidity may help someone searching in the future.
