Missing keystrokes with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse stutter

I'll start by saying I don't really do any gaming, I'm just using my computer for general office software (nothing too taxing).

Many years ago I decided to delve into buying a wireless keyboard and mouse for the first time. I went with a Microsoft kb and mouse set. I think it was this:

It was good most of the time but I noticed that frequently keystrokes were missed and the mouse occasionally stuttered. Could have been a million reasons for this but I got annoyed enough to switch back to wired variants. All was fine for many years and I went through various PC replacements etc.

My current PC is about 3 years old (it has a 4th generation Intel i-5 quad core processor, 8GB RAM). It's running Windows 10 and is still running all my general office software perfectly fine. I was using a dell wired mouse and a wired Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. Again, all was fine.

In a moment of impulse and wanting to reduce my cabling, I thought I'd go with a wireless solution so I quickly purchased a wireless Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard and the associated MS wireless mouse. Basically this:

However, I noticed that often I get the same issue as before. Keystrokes would sometimes go missing and the mouse would lag/stutter. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's like there are sometimes bad periods which may last 30 seconds and after that all is okay again. It's been a long time but it feels suspiciously exactly like my previous wireless experience. However, there's 0% in common (except the user lol) with that previous setup. PC has changed, software has changed, OS has changed and keyboard/mouse has changed.

Are these issues fairly common? Is it caused by when the PC is busy doing some background processing or is this wireless interference from all the numerous wireless devices a modern home office has?

Quite frankly it is getting very annoying and I'm thinking of going back to a wired solution just to avoid the lag and keystrokes. Ironically I was expecting it to have happened while I was composing this post but it hasn't happened. But it definitely does and it gets far too annoying.

Thoughts?

TIA

Below is just a theory (i'm basically blaming Windows 10 - but taking my time leading up to the point):

I use wireless natural keyboard but paired with Logotech M705 mouse - so on a different signal - and never had the problem you describe until Windows 10.

The problem is very specific to Windows 10 - for me - and since i turned off updates it hasn't occurred since.

Perhaps, and this is just a theory, as your keyboard and mouse use the same frequency/signal it may be more prone/susceptible to Windows updating - given our slight combo difference and the fact i've only experienced it with the PITA that is Windows 10 updating.

Additional: Are you using the dedicated driver - plus all the added rubbish?

I only use the drivers and nothing else - may be another factor.

I will try to turn of auto updates to test. I think I installed the Microsoft software for both the keyboard and mouse (so not just the drivers but the full software). I didn't think there was rubbish installed, I thought the extra were just allowing me to customise the buttons and various things.

My crass terminology for software that lurks in the background and interrupts you about updtates etc... (Plus, windows 10 may end up having other insidious intentions for it with updates. :))

I do my best to use just drivers - and i find that i can still use all the features of the keyboard and adjust my 'Logitech' mouse speed etc... (maybe not as comprehensively with the dedicated suite - but no issues so far).

If you feel you need the added suite then use it - i don't install it/them, for any device/peripheral as it reduces the chance of conflicts, and resource hogging on start up (not such a problem nowadays).
