I am trying to host a small lan at my house, most of us are connected but one person is having trouble connecting to the network.
We attempted to use the "Set up a home or small office network" wizard to connect him but we found it was missing from his version of windows xp pro. He hasnt updated his copy of windows past SP1 but nor have the rest of us at the lan.
We turned off windows firewall but so far no luck..

Thanks

Why not setup manually?

Navigate

START > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS.

Bring the info up on your machine, and your friends. Copy accross

If your using NetBIOS over TCP/IP ensure that

a) Your friends WORKGROUP is set to the same WORKGROUP as yours
b) NetBIOS Over tcp/ip is enabled on your friends computer

a) Control Panel > System > Computer name > Change

b) LAN Properties > Internet Protocol > Properties > Advanced > Wins > Enable NetBios

Of course this is very simplified. Without knowing more about your topology, this is only very general advice.
