Missing RAM

Afternoon all,

Interesting (read annoying) issues I've just come across with my system.

I've got 4GB of installed RAM (2x 2GB Dual Channel) and am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It doesn't seem as though Windows is mapping all of my available memory though.

System properties shows that I've got 4GB installed, shown below: -

BIOS also shows that 4096MB is installed, but in Task Manager it's showing I only have 3.25GB: -

Have I gone mad? Where'd the other 771MB go then? I thought that by using a 64-bit OS I could use all of the available installed RAM!

Someone, please help!

Hi guys, thanks for replying!

Hello 10xOXR, you may have to go into the BIOS and enable an option called "Memory Remapping"

Sadly, I can't find any option resembling this anywhere in my BIOS. I'm using a Foxconn P35AP-S motherboard.

Then there should be a box saying use maximum memory deselect that.

If had a look, and this option is already unchecked.

Tearing my hair out at this, any other thoughts?

I've been searching thee forums but can't seem to find the solution. WOuld it be something in BIOS that I'm missing? Does anyone else have the same board as me as well as this problem?

Thanks,

BIOS Update! What a wonderful thing!

Seems mine was a little buggy and the option that apparently sets the remapping (oddly called Memory 15-16MB hole) didn't work even when enabled. Since the update a few mins ago Vista Task Manager reports the full 4GB. :D

Many thanks to all that took the time to reply to this thread, your help was greatly appreciated.
