Missing the old (and tasty) original Sailor Jerry rum flavour?

Someone pointed me in the direction of this rum on the "Save Sailor Jerry" Facebook page. As anyone who drinks it regularly knows they changed the recipe of Sailor Jerry just over a year ago and the new version lost a lot of the strong lime and vanilla flavour which made it so great.

Managed to bag a bottle of Admiral Vernon's Old J Spiced Rum (the one that was recommended as a replacement) and oh my, heaven in a bottle!

If anything I think it's slightly better than the original Sailor Jerry!

Anyway, worth checking out if you liked the original Sailor Jerry rum and have been missing it in your life. Sadly it's a pain in the rear end to get a hold of, I had to go 17 miles to find a shop stocking it up here but you can check out shops near you on the website http://www.oldjspicedrum.co.uk/index.html

Enjoy!

It's been more like 3 years since they changed it. I've still got one bottle left, nursing it slowly!

Kraken is also a good replacement.

Been tempted to pick that upa few times now, worth trying then?

Kraken? Yeah I like it. Very sweet though, I tend to have it with diet coke as it ends up tasting of coke once it's mixed anyway. In terms of being drunk straight there's far better spiced rums to go for, Green Island springs to mind.

Hmmm the Whiskey Exchange @ Vinopolis stocks this at £18 a bottle. Right by where I work, could be worth a punt.

Cheers for the heads up.

And as for Kraken, never tried it? Is it quite easy to get hold off?

It is now, I first had it when someone I know imported a bottle for his bar (was the yank version, which is slightly nicer).

£22 in Tesco, Sainsbury and Asda iirc. By far my favorite rum at the moment, without spending £40+. Bottle looks awesome as well.

Cheers Mr Rai, might look at trying it whilst I'm out if I can and if it flirts with my taste buds could end up taking the bottle home.

Go for it at that price, you won't see it any cheaper. It's about £24 online to buy and the place I got it was £18.99

Highly recommend it!
