Try restoring all hidden Windows updates, and then check for updates. Install all.
If the icon comes in, reserve Win 10 through it, and wait a couple of days, till enough files for Win 10 come in. Then the actual install should go smoother. On mine it did like that. On two other computers, I tried to both download and install rightaway and it was a little messy for a while.
I only use important updates and the icon did not appear for me until I did the below. Then I installed the relevant updates by scrolling down the update listings and selecting them.
2.Make sure Windows Update is turned on - for instructions to turn on Automatic Updates, see Knowledge Base article 306525. Then check to see if the necessary updates are installed.
To do this, from the Start menu or screen, search for cmd, right-click on Command Prompt in the results and select Run as administrator. Type or paste the command dism /online /get-packages | findstr 3035583 – if the update is installed, you will get a return with Package identity followed by a string of information. If nothing is returned, the update is not installed, and you need to check for updates and install it.
Windows 7: also run the command dism /online /get-packages | findstr 2952664
If this update is not installed, install it now.
Also worth noting that if you have Enterprise or machine is part of a domain then you shouldn't be getting the update installed that allows W10. That said we've got instances of Enterprise and domain machines having the staging folder downloaded.
