Missing Wireless

My Mother-in-Law has a Compaq Presairo F500 and the built in wireless has stopped working and also says its not installed, i have spent hours trying to find out why but google has not been my friend. Please help

What is the wireless card?

Do you not have a driver for it?

Thats just it i have no idea what it is, it does not show up in the device manager or anywhere, like i said its built in

Oh and she has not got any of the CD's it came with she has no idea where they are

Okay, well i suggest you look inside the laptop itself, case, keyboard, metal panel and then your in..

If you find out the cards name then ill help you find the driver.

should see it and it should say something on it. If not i think you should get a wireless USB adapter, you can find these on the auction site for a pretty low price, OcUK may have them, i think they do, infact im sure they do, and so do many other places.

its the mainboard will need fixing under warranty

The card's a Broadcom BCM94311MCG.

ok installing the driver did nothing?

also all the windows updates are failing

if its not showing in device manager then its a fault with the mainboard and will need replacing

or the wifi card has been dislodged from the mpci slot?

Where will i find the wifi card, bearing in mind i have never taken apart a laptop?

This is the service guide, but if it's still under warranty, send it back.

Edit : looking at the manual, it's under the memory panel but it's screwed in, sounds like an RMA job.

Ok i have taken out the WIFI Card and had a good look it seems to be fine, i guess ill have to get her to have it looked at under the warrenty

was wondering that, was kinda hoping the op had tried this before hand

(although it *should* still have the card in device manager).

It could just be disabled in the BIOS. Check it's enabled there.

I have just checked the bios and in the boot order it has Network Adapter and it has a ! by it and down the side it says "The boot capability will be disabled if the device with the exclamation mark" which does not makesense to me lol

But there is no where in the bios to enable it or disable it
