Summer 2023

Spiderverse, MI:7, FastX. All did the:

-We're filming 2 part movies back to back.
-We will leave you with cliffhangers and give you the conclusion next year.
-Filming 2 part films back to back will save money.
-You'll all come back for the final part of our multi decades long saga conclusions

Turn's out, there's only so many times you can advertise the hell out of a movie based on a single Tom Cruise stunt, before people got bored (I guess). Maybe killing off Rebeca Ferguson didn't help.
Fast X, too many Jabronis in the same film and even more promised in FAST 11, even a Jason Mamoa retcon from the best movie (F5) couldn't save it. I'm sure the Rock and Gal Gadot wish they hadn't signed up for part 11.

Both made massive losses (100s of millions), probably the kind of losses that would make it difficult to justify even greenlighting a sequel in the next few years and possibly talks of rebooting/ending the franchises. Mi:8 only delayed 1 year to be fair, Fast 11 will be a 2 year delay (2026) and Spiderverse 3 years (2027!).

Ironically the film about some budget Black Spider-man and his multicultural mates jumping around all that multiverse jazz (that no one's interested in) made a huge profit. Go figure.

Saw it last night. I will give no spoilers, except to say I have never seen Pom Klementieff look so gorgeous! And I mean spectacularly gorgeous.

And yes, Rebecca Ferguson is a huge loss.

I saw it earlier in IMAX, enjoyed it.

Didn’t feel as long as the run time suggests! Felt quite nostalgic at times, not a bad thing.

Did a bit of urbex in Middleton mine a few months ago and found out that Tom Cruise was there last year shooting scenes for this film so that alone has made me want to go and check this out

7.5/10 - Definitely darker in tone than the other films but well made, very high stakes. All actors performed well. I know that some reviews complain about the first hour, I can see their point as it is more of a catchup for people who hadn't seen the previous one. Incredible action as usual but a bit more few and far between than previous films.

Few issues:

The main bad guy had only been introduced in the previous movie and seemed a bit to 'comically evil' in this.

Pretty much no reference to Rebecca Ferguson which after being built up in several films kind of detracted from Ethan's connection with Grace as it appeared so sudden.

Whilst killing off Luther was indeed felt, the fact that they had him already seem very ill prior took away from the shock value, seemed the cheap easy solution. Killing off Benji (with a damn good performance from Simon Pegg I will add). Would have hit much deeper.

Still a very solid entry, upped the stakes, great stunts but not in the top 3 of MI film's for me.

So would it be a waste of time to watch the previous movie again if an hour is spent recapping it?

We did rewatch Part 1 beforehand, and yes, a lot of the relevant parts are in the recap at the beginning of Part 2.

Having seen Part 2 I'd skip watching Part 1 again.
