As per the title i'm in the process of fitting some floating shelves under our stairs. Because they will run the length of the space, I need to mitre one end at 45 degrees so it is angled with the stairs and will sit flush. The problem I'm facing is to do that I need to cut a decent mitre, but my mitre saw and old mitre block won't cut anything that deep. Its around 11".

Are there any clever ways to mitre something that deep, without me having to do it freehand as I can't see that going too well.

Thanks in advance

1) Freehand it, it's the manly way to do it!
2) Use a router, it's the next most manly way to do it (but I'm guessing from your post that you don't have one)
3) Take it to your local timber shop, drop them a quid for a 5 sec saw job on their table saw, score zero man points.

Here to help :)

If it's one of them hollow shelves you might need to glue a block of wood in there to make it solid again as you will be cutting the end block off.

A circular saw would be ideal, but a lot of the cheaper ones come with a very course blade and the hollow shelves are made from pretty thin material, so i'd be very careful. A sharp handsaw/ back saw with as many teeth per inch as possible would be the best bet.
