A few yrs ago i drove a mates 1998 Colt GLXi for a few months as he was away in Dubai and i needed a run around, not the fastest thing on the road but it was zippy and perfomance was decent. Did'nt look too bad either. My car was in for some work last week and i was driving a 2006 Colt courtesy, felt cheap, looked like an aborted people carrier and the pickup and speed were horrible. Saw less plastic on a barbie doll!
 
I drove a colt 1.6 m reg for a few weeks and loved it ,it was well fast too ,went to the local mazda dealer to buy a new one ,what a load of rubbish ,slow and bubble shape !
Have noticed a lot of new cars seem to be gutless !
Have today brought a mx6 2.5 v6 cost me peanuts and I love it ,old is better :D

No offense man, but what did you drive before? I find my focus 1.6 AUTO a bit slow and its miles faster than the 1.5CZT Colt manual i drove :D
 
I had a play with my mate in his 1.6 mirage version of the colt. Considering i call my car 'a bit nippy' at the best of times, his colt wasn't up to much in comparison. Aren't they like 95bhp or something similar for the 1.6 ?

It was a colt auto ,my other car is a 1.6 clio which it would leave standing ,maybe it had something done to it I don't know but it was much faster than any other similar powered car I have driven ! (I'm also talking about an old colt not a new one )

It was not well fast. It might have been faster than expected. It might have been the fastest thing you have driven. This does not make it well fast :)

Maybe different viewpoints i guess. I'm actually coming from 2L+ cars some with Turbo to smaller engined more economical cars and auto transmission so i guess my opinion is a bit biased with me finding them slow.

sorry but this is total BS, the CZT has 150bhp, it is far, far faster than a 1.6 auto focus :/

As for the UK market 1.6 colts, they are slow, I should know :p The only fast colts are the JDM Cyborg models, think EK9 minus 5% or so.

Also there was never a 1.5 M plate colt sold in this country, or any RHD country afaik, only 1.3 and 1.6.

I know this, on paper maybe lol. I just find the Focus picks up speed and handles a whole lot better. Maybe there was something wrong or it was tweaked so drivers could'nt gun it? But i think actually owning the focus and driving the colt qualifies me to have an opinion on the matter than someone calling BS? :)

Are you serious? Colt CZT 0-60 = 7.7s
Focus 1.6 Auto 0-60 = 13.2s

I find it impossible to believe the focus could be faster, in any situation at all.

Is there any way to tweak them to run slower? (remember it was a courtesy car) Or maybe i was'nt revving it enough and changing gear too early? :D Did scream a bit though.
 
Btw, knowing for sure i drive a 2002 Focus 1.6 Auto (:p ) i can tell ya 0-60 comes a bit quicker than 13.2 secs ;) Timed it down to 9. something on the A406, on the flat :p Prolly more like 55 or so since the speedo over reads.
