First i would like to say i am by no meand a noob but ram is the one place i get confused,

I first had problems when i bought a gigabyte ds4 mobo, i had 4gb (4x 1gb) of corsair xms2 C5 6400 ram from my previous system. the only difference between the sticks were 2 were version 1.2 and 2 were version 2.0. only the version 1's would work with the ds4 board so i sold the other two... these worked fine in another mobo. I now have the 2gig's overclocked to 900 mhz and want another 2gig's (just got vista x64) firstly should i risk getting some more of the same corsair or can i get some other brand known to work with the ds4 and mix it aslong as it's c5?

will there be performance and compatability issues as i don't fancy buying another 4 gig's!!!

the rest of my system for info

gigabyte ds4 mobo
c2d e6700 @ 3ghz
8800gtx
etc etc etc

I think you've answered your own question there mate. With no way of finding out what revision you're buying there will always be a possibility that you get lumbered with the same revision as you've just sold, risky!

Again I wouldn't risk it, to hit and miss for my liking. I know its not what you want to hear but personally I'd sell the rev 1.2's and buy 2x2GB of matching pairs, sorry I can't be of more help but it is a bit of a dilima your in there. GL.
