I currently have a Dell U2711 but I need more screen real estate, originally I was planning to get an additional U2711 and this is still potentially on the cards but if I'm on honest with myself for what I will be using it for I don't need a second 2560x1440 monitor.

I then came across the Dell 2709W which is 1920x1200 but was discontinued and replaced by the U2711 so I started hunting for one of these but not many come up for sale and the ones that do are 3+ years old no warranty etc.

So now I'm considering a Dell U2412M instead nearly a third of the price of a U2711. Has a similar bezel/stand and height dimensions as it's a 16:10 ratio so it's is only 2.4cm shorter in height than the U2711 which is 16:9. Just wondering how noticeable especially with the different resolutions that might be in everyday use and also aesthetically.

Summary: Looking for advice on having dual setup with different sized monitors and resolution: Dell U2711 16:9 @ 2560x1440 + Dell U2412M 16:10 @ 1920x1200

I have a triple monitor setup, relevant screens in this case a Hazro HZ27WD (2560x1440 @ 27") and a Samsung 2443BW (24" 1920x1200).
Sure there is a difference as the pixel density on a 24" is much lower so everything looks bigger and a little less sharp, but it works quite nicely, 1920x1200 in portrait mode is quite good as well that's how I use my monitors nowadays.. 1920 isn't wide enough to line up two Windows next to each other but it's high enough to fit two of them under each other.

Thanks for the reply, think I will go for the 24" as a second monitor. The dimensions show it's around 2.4cm shorter in height but I'll align the top of the monitors anyway and don't think it should be too noticeable!

Unless your really loving the pixel density of the 27", go for the 24" too. I've got a 26" 1920x1200, and 2 19" 1024x1280 (portrait) for either side.

It is nice to have monitors that are the same size & res, but as long as you set it up properly (so if the tops of the monitors are together, that's how you arrange them in windows) it'll be fine having different ones, as any dragging etc will work as expected.

I absolutely love the resolution on the U2711. Easily my best upgrade and I would love another but I know I wouldn't be getting the most out of the second for what I plan to use it for so it would be a vanity purchase more than anything I think.

Based on that and responses about the different resolutions I have ordered the U2412M, looking forward to receiving it now :)

Since you own one can you tell me if the U2711 is any good for playing games? I.e does it ghost badly etc? I am looking for a bigger monitor anyway because I often run out of screen space when I am programming and have several windows open. I also like to play games though and would like the best of both worlds :D. P.S. Sorry to hijack your thread with this

I'm not a big gamer but I haven't noticed any ghosting when playing a few of the games I do own such as COD:MW2, BF2, Crysis 2, Dirt 3 etc. But then I also don't notice the "aggressive" Anti Glare I kept reading so much about when researching them.
