Mixed up RAM!

I'm wondering whether or not my current RAM is likely to be causing probems...

I have 2 sticks of OCZ 256mb (Dual Channel) from when I bought the PC and have since added a stick of Samsung 512 and then an unbranded 1gig stick.

Each time I have added more RAM the PC has become noticeably faster, but upon adding the last stick (1 gig unbranded) it has become a touch more unstable.

I guess my question is whether or not having such a mixed bunch of memory is likely to cause problems?

In my experience running such a mix of memory brands is not a good idea, neither is running different sized modules, and 4 sticks is not at all optimal...

Even if it wasn't directly causing instability the 1GB stick would be severely limiting the performace of your OCZ stuff. What timings/speeds are you running? If you're trying to run the new stuff at the speed of the OCZ (probably 2-3-2-x or something) it definately will cause problems.

I must admit that I don't even know how to adjust timings!!

I'm starting to think its best to sell it all off and replace it with a pair of matched 1gig sticks.

As you have all 4 slots filled you need to make sure you are running at 2T (Command Per Clock). You system may have previously been set to 1T timings.
