Mixed Use Monitor - Resolution and Image Scaling

I'm looking to replace my monitor with a higher resolution model with USB-C (display and charging) to connect to my work laptop. I also intend to use it with my personal PC, PS5 and some 1080p sources (OSSC and PS3).

My main concern is aspect rations and image scaling with non native resolution sources. Am I right in thinking that a 4k monitor will scale 1080p better than 1440p as it can essentially just 4x the image? Or is that too simplistic and different with each model?

I keep getting drawn to the below MSI models, though this is perhaps as a result of looking at so many spec sheets I've lost track of what ticks my requirements!

Requirements - IPS, USB-C with display&charging, 120hz or more. I'm unsure as to whether 1440p/4k is better and whether I should go 27" as I have now, or larger.

Ideally I want to spend as little as possible to meet my requirements, but no absolute fixed budget.

I have also been drawn to some Ultrawide models, as they would be helpful to have 2 windows side by side, but I have even more resolution scaling concerns with these!

Any advice or recommendations appreciated.
