Mixing and matching RAM?

My motherboard has 2 DIMM slots for DDR400 RAM, and is currently filled with 2 512MB sticks of Kingston 512MB RAM. I want to raise to 1.5GB, so the easiest thing to do would be to buy a new stick of 1GB RAM and use it along with one of my 512MB sticks.

My question is, can I mix it up like that? I am planning on buying this Corsair RAM, which I can afford right now, I just need to know I can use it.

Cheers.

It might work but no-one can make any promises. Most people would advise you to sell your existing memory and run 2 x 1GB of the same memory.

Even if it did work (matched pairs are recommended with Athlon 64 not just cos of dual channel but cos they are very fussy) you'd lose dual channel mode which would lower performance in those apps that don't require 1.5GB of memory. Which if you use more that don't than do, can make the upgrade a little pointless.

Go for 2x1GB unless you absolutely have to.
