Hi ready to be shot down in flames but thought i would ask anyway, nephew has a dell dimension c521 with 2x1Gb of ProMos memory that the site says runs at 1.8v, now he has bought Geil 2x1Gb that the site says should run at 2.1v.

So the memory settings are greyed out in the bios so can't be changed i know that different timings would run at the slowest but what about voltages?

Thanks

Robert

The BIOS will set all the RAM to run at the same voltage.

You'll end up with the 1.8V RAM at 2.1V (may not be healthy for it) or the 2.1V RAM at 1.8V (it may not work).

Thanks for the quick reply i guess thats a no then will get him to sell 1 set, take it the geil is the set he should keep or is the promos @1.8v better

No idea.

What speed and timings are the two different kits?

If the 1.8V kit is 800MHz, and the 2.1V kit is 1066MHz, you may find the 1066MHz kit will run @ 800MHz @ 1.8V.
