Mixing memory of different speeds

Hi all,

Looking for some general advice on the use of 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 2133MHz Memory Modules with 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz Memory Modules.

Is the mixing of memory modules a good/bad idea?

My motherboard (Asus Maximus VI Formula) has 2 slots for channel A and 2 for channel B. What is the best configuration for the memory? Both 2133MHz modules on one channel or split between both channels?

Please excuse my ignorance here :confused:

So both 2133MHz on channel A and the 2 1600MHz on channel B?

tbh, unless you REALLY need 16GB, I'd just stick with 2x4GB 2133MHz.

What will be better, 16GB at a downclocked speed of 1600MHz or 8GB at 2133MHz?

Computer is mainly used for gaming, photo editing (Photoshop CC), music and downloading/browsing.

It seems that the mixed memory was holding me back from overclocking the computer. Whenever I tried overclocking it previously, the system wouldn't boot, failing on memory. Now that I have removed the 1600MHz memory, I can overclock without any issues
