Anyone have much experience of mixing memory types?
Have 2Gb of Gskill HZ DDR500 on an Sli-D with a Opteron 146. Running at 3-3-3-8 at DDR500. Would really like to add another 2Gb for use in Vista64 but can't find any of the same memory at a decent price.
What's the deal with mixing memory types? Could I add some other brand DDR500 or could I add some DDR400 and try running on a divider with relaxed timings one the DDR400?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You'll need to drop down to 2T for 4 sticks in the nF4 board.

I doubt you'll get anywhere near your current settings with four sticks tbh. Running on a divider should be ok, but then DFI boards are notoriously picky about memory.

The chance of you running 4 sticks of different IC's is so remote that really it is'nt worth the bother. As has been said 2t at the minimum. The real problem with different IC's is the SPD's for each will be different. A similar question was asked at "the street" yesterday and my answer is the same as then. If you really MUST have 4gig's of ram then swap to a DDR2 based rig, then you can buy 2x2gig's of matched ram(maybe even from our hosts :D )

I'm REALLY REALLY trying hard not to upgrade. I've had the C2D, mobo and RAM in the basket about 10 times and so far managed not to click on the submit button. :p
Not sure how much longer I can resist though!!
