Mixing memory

Can I mix different brands of memory? I currently have 6GB of Patriot Triple Channel C8 memory, can I buy 6GB of another brand such as Corsair C8 memory and will it be compatible?

Thanks, I have a very mild 3.2Ghz OC on an i7 920 D0, I have plenty of overhead so I assume even using all 6 slots should just mean a little tweaking rather than reverting to stock....

I do a bit of video and photo work as well as other research based applications that need more than 6Gb of memory.....
