Mixing Memory?

Hey Guys/Girls

I've been out of the game too long and my memory (Pun!) is failing me.

The pc i'm looking to upgrade the mmeory in currently has 4gb of this installed:

I'm wondering if i could just add a different brand from the same tier without problems? such as

GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1333C9DC)

Well the ocz ram is 1600mhz, the GeIL ones are only 1333mhz, so all it only run at 1333mhz i think, the new ones will need to be 1600mhz as well. I believe.

Nope. The volts are different and the timings may be to.

Generally it's not recommended to mix brands as it can cause stability issues.

Yeah the ram will run as fast as the slowest stick, at least that was the case with DDR2. Can't say I've ever mixed ram with DDR3 and it's just so cheap these days may as well buy a whole kit and use that solely.

I would yeah, it'll avoid any problems you may encounter and with RAM it can cause havoc all over the place.

I personally would think it to be a bit weird having 12gig of ram anyhow.

I might just be worth getting a nice 2x4. unless you need like 16GB.
