Will PC2700 notebook ram work in a notebook using PC2100?

We have a Time Laptop with 256mb of PC2100 ram... Ive got a spare stick of 256mb PC2700 laptop ram - can I combine both of them? will the PC2700 clock down to PC2100 speeds - can you damage anything?

you can mix them , and as you guessed the pc2700 will clock down to pc2100.

nothing will break, there is a chance your pc will not boot , but thats a risk even in the most normal conditions with memory

Yeah, I put PC2700 memory in my old laptop when it before had PC2100 - worked totally fine. I recomend buying crucial RAM for a laptop as it has a lifetime guarantee and you can get exactly the right stuff by typing in the laptop details on the website.

Stuff I have is Samsung - I dont know what the stuff is in the laptop - but I will both be using PC2700 and 2100 at same time.... giving a total of 512mb's - so you all saying it will work then?

If possible put the slower ram in the slot under the keyboard, which is usually picked up first, to make sure it runs with the slower memory. Most laptops have very little options for memory/bus speeds in the BIOS.

Samsung RAM is great, especially for laptops....I ordered some crucial PC2700 for my laptop and that has crucial chips on , according to CPU-z anyway and it works 100% with the pc2100 that was in there before.

I reckon the chances are it'll work spot on mate.
