My little brother is desperate to be able to 'mix' songs on his laptop, Basically, he wants some software that he can load two songs in at once, overlay them etc, speed them up.
Does anyone have any ideas what software he should go for?
Thank you

I'm pretty sure you should be able to do some basic things in Audacity. It's free, and has some nice tools.

Probably not the best for what you want, but if there's something better around, I'm sure somebody will be along soon with a recommendation.

depends on your needs. cakewalk sonar is always a good place to start but may be a little too advanced for just "mixing". audacity as mentioned as another good program but i think a little restrictive in its mixing capabilities (it will do the required job but at a basic level) and it does boast some good tools to customize music. Another good program to look at is Propellerheads Reason v4.0. But again, do a bit of research into each of the programs suggested and pick one suited to your needs :)

Traktor.

Or if he wants to do take the time to learn something and wants a less real time approach, give Ableton Live a try. Takes quite a while to learn how it works though I think.
