Apologies in advance.

Last week I started to notice a knocking under the car when going over speed bumps and bumpy roads. I know next to nothing about cars but had a look underneath and saw what looked to be a crack on the left exhaust pipe. I managed to get it in the garage on Thursday for them to have a look at it and let me know the damage both to my car and wallet.

He explained that the clips which held the exhaust pipe in place had basically disintegrated which then caused the knocking and due to the knocking the exhaust had split in a few places and I’ll need “3 rear exhaust parts”. Now this to me, means nothing but he said he called Ford who quoted him £800-£900 for these parts. He has welded the broken sections back together for me which he said should give me a few months time to source the parts and save up.

It was a cash in hand job as the garage I took it to services the fleet of wagons and vehicles my dad works for. I think that’s the reason he can’t order my parts etc..

Anyway, do these “3 rear exhaust parts” for a Mk4 Mondeo 60 plate actually have name or are they generic parts for that car? Also, the price was a shocker I must admit but surely I can get them elsewhere online for cheaper? My issue is what to actually search for, like I said, I’ve no idea about cars.

Sorry for the long winded post, but I’m a bit stuck as to what to search for, thanks.

Take it to a local tyre and exhaust place and have them look at it.

Once you know what needs replacing have a ring round for the best price.

If you want a worst case price first have a ring round and ask what a full replacement exhaust system for your car would cost.

A lot more than just going to a custom exhaust place

Just suffered the same with my Titanium X Sport 60 plate as well. Backbox on the left hand side has had enough and detached itself from the car. 3 local garages can only get parts from Ford at ~£450 for the backbox and sleeves to rejoin it to the system.

Kwik Fit said they can't do it and referred me to an independant exhaust specialst nearby! Rough quote for a whole system is £650! :/

I had a similar problem with my ST TDCi years ago - no aftermarket parts available, presumably due to the relatively low numbers produced. Ford parts were not identical to the original and were over £400.

I ended up getting a stainless steel system made at the local Powerflow dealer for £250 - but that was a single box. £650 for a full system doesn't sound too bad,

Manifold, down pipe, centre and rear (back box) there is no 3” rear exhaust parts apart from the tail pipe which is part of the back box. Dealers bend you over but not at £900 and patern parts don’t always fit right.
Go to eurocarparts enter your reg, go to exhaust and get him to show you what parts you need.

eurocarparts show no products when I put in my car reg when looking for exhaust parts.

Mk4 parts are not available yet? After 9!years?

Might be cheaper to get a custom stainless made up

I’m sure there’s a powerflow in notts

Ouch, is all I can say.

I had to replace an exhaust on a mitsubishi lancer a few years back and felt pretty cheesed off when I was quoted over £400 for a standard exhaust.
