Hopefully a straight forward question!

MK1 1.6 petrol Focus new exhaust system possibly required.
Garage saw the exhaust and stated I required the following:
"Manifold, cat, middle, rear, fittings" £500 parts + labour at £60.
Price quoted is around the value of the car!

I've been shopping around and weighing up my options and going to get another garage to give another opinion but found online (eBay) these parts:

Middle + Rear

Manifold and Cat

Same parts are around £242 from Europarts.

Can someone confirm that the parts above would be what's required?
I'm assuming I can keep the Lamda sensor, would there be a reason to change it?

It's a 1999 model.
Not sure if I need a complete new exhaust so gonna get a second opinion.
Was pricing up and preparing myself for the worst case scenario!
It's got a few small holes through corrosion (along the pipe where the cat connects to the center section) and I can hear it blowing at times.

The car has only ever let me down once in 11 years of ownership and the exhaust has not been replaced since I've owned it. As far as I'm aware, it is the original exhaust so around 14 years old and 96K miles.

Cheers

Your exhaust could well be knackered, but I'd be surprised if your manifold and cat were dead. I'd take it to an independent garage you know you can trust.

Get in a taxi

Ask "where would you go when your exhausts knackered".

Go there and watch them weld ot or add bits they have lying around for beer money

Your original quote sounds like a typical exhaust and tyre 0lace quote. I was told i needed £400 worth of fixing on my car worth £200. It passed another two mots with 40 worth of welding

Popped into my local Kwikfit for them to give it a butcher's.
They pointed out the same problems and said the whole thing would need replacing (the usual garage tactics?)

I asked about the cat and they said that would need changing.
How could they know if it needs replacing without checking the readings like they do at an MOT? There was no apparent visible damage to it?

They're probably talking out of their arses just like the first garage, as I said before, take it to a decent independent garage that you know you can trust. If you don't know one then ask around, you're not going to get good advice from kwikfit.

Where are you based?

I would google online for a reputable garage in your area, see if you can find some reviews on various garages and then take your pick.

It sounds like that the original garage you went to are trying to bleed you dry, and I certainly wouldn't go to Kwik Fit if they were my only option! I doubt that you need a complete exhaust system & cat, even when the exhaust on my old Focus was blowing the only thing I needed was a new Flexi pipe as it developed a hole due to rust where it joined up with the cat. Despite the middle pipe looking aged too it was still fine to use.

don't take your car to Kwik Fit or Halfords, its a 1999 normal ford focus, its not worth a £600 quote for an exhaust they are all ripping you off

need to take it elsewhere , a more reputable Garage
