Which is better ?
Me and a friend had this conversation the other day
the st has 11 more hp doesn't it
but I said the rs was probly better as it's more hardcore than a st
personally given the choice I would have a rs every time
discuss

I'd probably have the ST for two reasons.

- I prefer the styling on the Mk.II.
- It'd be a lot cheaper than the Mk.I RS, which has surged in price somewhat.

As for the actual driving experience, I can't see there being a lot of difference.

Ford to chose between the two, I'd have the ST.

It is a better car than the RS in every way, and a considerably better car when you take into account the price:performance ratio.

The Focus RS is now very healthily scene taxed and I'm not a fast Ford nut.

I'd take the RS, purely because the ST is common as muck and the RS looks the business!

As for pure performance, I'm fairly sure the ST would beat it, and I believe they are much more tunable.

The ST is the better car.

Its a bit like buying an Escort Cosworth - you really have to be a Ford fan boy to buy an RS.

I wouldn't own a MK1 RS. Parts are becoming scarce and expensive. I was speaking with an RS owner who had an accident where he was forced into a curb and damaged the suspension, one of the suspension parts that needed replacing could not be sourced anywhere and as a result the insurance company tried to write the car off. The owner had to get a fabrication company to repair the existing part. And for that reason, I'm out :p

I quite like the off-key warble of the |5 engine too.

@&£& that lol
that's a shame it's pretty stupid you can't get parts for a 8 year old car

Think it depends what you want from the car, if i was buy it as a second car I would take the RS..... but as a main everyday car, then ST starts to make more sense.

Test drove the RS few weeks back, last time I did that was when they were new when I had one for 24 hours from work..... Was never fan of the Mk1 styling etc, and now it driving it it felt like it was showing it's age. That said engine still felt very willing and free and lots of fun....
I refused the ST, simply because they are the modern day XR3i.... and every ***** got one around here......plus they gulp the fuel down......
Had a drive in one a few years back, nothing wrong with them,..... but I would have just wished it was the Mk2 RS ..... :(
So I went for the Cupra, which is bit like a cross between all of them..

As a drivers car I'd choose the RS easily, the ST isn't that great a drive, as a day to day proposition however I'd certainly choose the ST.

I wouldn't choose either though personally.

Think I'd go for the ST. I like the MK1 RS, but the prices seem to be at a premium for what it is. Nice looking car at the same, pretty rare.

If I had the choice of a third car, it'd probably be the third over either.
