Hi my friend has a 1.6 mk1 mx5 cab and in the last couple of weeks he's noticed an issue as described in the thread title. A Quick Google tells me coil packs or potentially the tps mis set. My mate reckons damp ecu citing damp carpets and possibly blown cap. He has had the ecu angle grinded so he can physically remove and inspection it tommorrow at my gafe.

Any further thoughts or ideas on this and how likely it is to be the ecu or something else? I have a multimeter and a handheld obd2 scanner to thtowat it (not sure if it is obd2). Any thoughts welcome. Don't batter my grammar wriiten on my phone. Ta.

A similar issue was HT Leads on mine, changed them and it fixed the problem :) might be worth trying that first, they're not that expensive and some coloured ones look trick too :p

Based on my messings around with 5's:

1) ICV valve is blocked or gasket gone
2) Cracked line between crankcase and inlet manifold
3) Bad plugs
4) Old HT leads
5) Bad coilpack
6) TPS or TPS wiring
6) ECU issues (as in wet / damp)

Also those Magnecor leads did nowt except cost more and look blue.
