Hey all.

A brief background:
Had a 2000 Micra. It worked, but after 6.5 years (and no longer a teenager) I felt I deserved something a bit better. Dad was trading in his pristine 2007 Focus 2.0 TDCI and said I could have it for the trade-in price of £4000.

I have looked online at remaps, but the only person I know with one is a friend who has had a 185hp remap on a PD150 MK4 Golf GTI with no issues for several years.
I hear Bluefins are good on Fords - Would cost around £400.
The remap is just a thought and I haven't got my heart set on one. I don't want one that will rape the injectors/turbo/clutch.

I am looking for general information/opinions/experiences. I have spent some time on google but there isn't a lot of information out there for the Focus. I don't want a remap from a company I have never heard of.

I've had my 2 taxis remapped by angel tuning generic flash mapping with some minor tweaking to suit your requirements had mine done and over 200k travelled with no I'll effects obviously this depends on the driver as much as the map as some people get cars mapped then stRt driving like plebs but a sensible remap alongside a comprehensive service schedule will see you with a car that is just as reliable bt with a hefty extra dose of go when you need it our 2 vectras went from 150 to circa 190 bhp and a similar gain in torque they are much more pleasurable to drive and some would argue safer too more power meaning safer overtakes etc one thing I would say though is even tough ours are mapped for performance the remaps have yielded a small increase in fuel economy both cars had their mpg recorded over various periods and remapping yielded approx 8% better fuel economy over a combined period of 60k miles

Be aware though mapping will emphasis any existing issues ie clutch a bit worn the extra torque will show it up

OK thanks for that.
The car was bought from my dad who drives it carefully (when I test drove it and floored it he said "wow it is fast I have never actually done that") and has always been to Ford for a service.

I don't intend to thrash it around, I just thought it picking up more easily and on occasion being quicker when flooring it would be much better.

My current insurance company (elephant) want to add £200 per year onto my premium though for the remap. I'd want to declare it even though nobody would ever know.

A daft question perhaps, but have you tried the car as it is? edit; for any length of time as opposed to a quick test drive...

I would imagine it'll be a world away from the previous Micra before the re-map anyway.

If your looking for a car that "on occasion being quicker when flooring it" is a requirement then ,maybe, a re-think on the choice of a diesel could be an idea?

I'd hack around in it for a few weeks first & see how you find it before worrying too much about re-maps if I were you tbh.

A fair point. I am not going to start chavving it up or changing parts, I have just read a lot on here over the years of people raving about remapped engines.
I have a diesel because it ment I could get the car that I have known since it was 6 months old and is in pristine condition, plus I paid the trade-in price of £4000 for it. For me, this negated that it was a diesel.
Yes it does feel worlds away from the Micra, but it is a case of you don't miss what you never had - Now I could never go back it, but at the time I didn't mind too much.

Sounds like you need to shop around if that's correct, IIRC Admiral increased my premium by £22 including admin fees to remap my golf TDI mk5
