I've been toying with the idea of buying a mk3 prelude for some time, always loved this shape, clean simple lines and an excellent drive. They are pretty cheap to buy, but not sure what the running costs would be like, was thinking they might qualify for classic insurance too which might help a 21yo with 0ncb ;p, anyone here ever owned one or have nay experience to share?

Firstly, get yourself onto PreludeUK!

The 2.0i-16 with 4WS is definitely the one to go for in my opinion.

That white one looks the business - Frost White is a wonderful colour (I had a 4th gen in the same colour)

Had a 4th gen Prelude. Loved that car. Running costs weren't too bad for a 2.2 engine. Nothing mechanical went wrong with it except the egr valve and I've had that go on loads of cars.

I say go for it!

Thanks for the link to the prelude forum, was looking for but only came across yanks forums or inactive ones.

I did some quotes on comparison sites and surprisingly they were very good, would probably be a few £££ less phoning around and classic insurance possibly, don't think an engine swap would be economically viable for me, insurance would sky rocket. The lude ticks all the boxes for me, but main concern is maintenance costs, I know rust will be a problem unless I can find a real gem with an elderly owner whose kept it garaged and with a complimentary **** smell :D, but if anything else goes wrong sourcing parts will be difficult and costly, it's an old car so theres something bound to go wrong, finding a good example will be difficult, most ive seen tend to be autos too, i wouldn't mind the slower non 4ws carb models, they sound great but apparently suffer from bad understeer, might just buy something sensible in the meantime and wait for a nice example to come along!

Thanks for the tips.

For parts you can either try and source them through an owners forum such as preludeuk or ludebehaviour, or from ebay or a breakers or just buy the parts from Honda (not all 3rd gen parts are still produced but most are still in stock). Rust is your main worry though as generally speaking Preludes don't break (unless you break them) the non 4ws 3rd gen models do tend to under-steer that's why the high end models had 4ws to eliminate it. (4th gens had optional LSD or 4ws, and 5th gens had 4ws or ATTS or LSD)
