Yo

My sisters 07 Fiesta's Aircon has stopped blowing cold (still does hot ok) and when the AC is on there is a 'click' noise from under the bonnet, around the drivers (belts) side of the engine that clicks about once every 10 second. Im thinking its something like something is failing to engage or something, but im not sure. Any ideas on what it could be or where we should look before taking it to the stealers?

Cheers

Sounds like the compressor is switching on/off, will do this if the gas pressure is low/incorrect in the system - take the car to a garage/air con specialist and get it leakdown tested and regassed, as long as the fuses are good there probably isnt much you can do yourself :)

An 07 would be a Mk6 facelift not a Mk5...

What you describe is a fairly common issue on these, you can regas the system quite easily if you desire - the low side pressure port is underneath the drivers side headlight, remove that and you'll see the 'cap'. A DIY regassing fixed the problem with the air con on my 06 plate car, which sounds similar but not quite so bad - compressor on mine only clicked on/off about every 40 seconds or so. Every 10 seconds suggests its very low on gas...

The kit to regas it yourself may well cost almost as much as a specialist would charge to do it though, and if its a problem other than regassing you'll have to take it to a specialist anyway...I got my stuff very cheaply!

Wikipedia called it the 5th Generation Fiesta or the Mk6... so I just took a guess... lol.

It would be the 6.5 then, with the 'nipple' headlights.

Would not using the aircon much cause the gas to go low? Aparently this is the first time my sister has used the aircon for ages, and she hardly ever uses it.

Mate of my dads works with aircon systems or something, he was going to regas my old Mondeo before it got totalled, will see if we can get his opinion on it.

Cheers

I had a simular fault on my Focus when I first got it, air con would only work for around the first 5 minutes when using the car and then it would stop blowing icy cold air. Anyway took it to a local garage who charge £35 for re-gassing and they confirmed that according to the machine it was near enough empty and then 20 minutes later after it was all re-charged and they tested it in the car it was still not working properly.

One of the mechanics confirmed that the compressor disk on the side of the engine was not spinning and he told me that it's due to the bearings seizing up as it may of not been used for a while as it needed re-gassing. So then he sprayed this stuff simular to WD-40 a few times on the disk (cannot remember the name of it now) and then got this metal bar to give it a bit of a tug & move it around a bit and it finally started working, the other mechanic turned it off/on again a few times just to test it and it's been working fine ever since. The only click I can hear is when you first turn the air con button on, and then 3 seconds later the click is present which shows that the disk has started spinning.
