Hi

Does anyone know if theres another way of opening the electronic fuel cap on the mk5 golf as the switch is broken inside the car ( poor attempt of taking door card off = broken switch  )

thx

Page 39 in the manual, "The tank flap cannot be opened manually. You should obtain professional assistance".

Sorry :(

Why do people keep calling it this? It sounds so daft. You drive a Volkswagen, you don't drive a VAG, any more than a 106 owner hasn't got a PSA and a BMW driver doesn't have a BMWAG.

I say that because the VAG range has the same fuel filler button system, if i said in my Passat he might have come back and said... 'Well its not the same car so it might not work in the same way'.

No you didnt, you always say it as does everyone who has something that isn't an Audi, whereas Audi owners seem content to just say Audi. I've no idea why but it's amusing nontheless. Both cars are VW's in this example.

Usually when someone says VAG they are referring to the basic group, i.e. VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda

Yea but nobody else does it. Pug owners don't tell everyone they drive a PSA, Volvo owners dont go around saying yea yea I've got a PAG, it's just VW, Seat and Skoda owners who seemed to have adopted VAG as some sort of cool cult in much the same way that people have with JDM.

Just a bit odd thats all :)

They just like to be part of the club fox lol.

To Op take the switch off and short the two wires you are left with. It will pop it open until you can order a new switch

because they all share similar parts/engines/designs and tend to be owned by people with similar interests and tastes, they do it on Audi forums too. If you go to a VW, Audi, SEAT or Skoda event you'll find loads of other VAG cars there. I only tend to use it when saying something along the lines of "I love VAG cars", it's a lot easier than saying "I love VW's, Audi's, SEAT's and (to a lesser extent) Skoda's" :)

Exactly the same with PSA Peugeot Citroen, yet it doesn't happen with them - anyway it's clear you've missed my point so I wont derail the thread with it any further :p

I understand the point you were making in this thread re: both the cars being VW in this example and agree with you on that point :)

obviously french car enthusiasts don't share the same comradery as the VAG lads

Personally i'd have thought the PSA group of lads would be closer than the VAG bunch, i mean if you own a PSA group car they all help each other out by picking up the bits that drop off PSA the car infront.

VAG boys don't do this.

I will refain from calling or refering to my car as VAG from now on, i think the above has got my quoter of VAG out of my system.

Perhaps....

to be honest..I'm astounded they dont have a manual way of opening...surely they must realise that things might go wrong..no matter how reliable you think you are.

I'm not sure if this would work but is worth a try...

I know in Polos you can open the petrol cap latch by levering the tube off the central locking pump and blowing/sucking to release the latch, pump is usually located behind the offside rear light cluster in vws
