Hi there

My OH has the above car, earlier tonight as she was driving to work I got a call from her telling me there's a yellow light (engine management) on the dashboard, the car wont tick over evenly and its seriously down on power. She's taken my car off to work with her on her nightshift :(

I'm fairly sure the above symptoms indicate a fault with the O2 (Lambda Sensor) which may require it being replaced? I'm wondering if anyone here can first of all confirm or offer any other suggestions to my diagnosis? And if they have experienced this on a Ford? Also what the costs and timescale to resolve this issue were?

I'll be calling our local trusted garage first thing tomorrow but thought I'd ask the OcUK collective first though ;)

A lot of MK6s will be out of warranty now.

My suggestion would be to get it plugged in - and also that it isn't the o2 sensor (I don't believe it would cause a dodgy idle, unless its setup retardedly)

Thanks for the input guys - I've got the car booked in for Fri morn so we'll find out then what the cause is then. Unfortunately the car is no longer in warrenty Matt, this why I was wondering the cost.

Age of the car? Service history?

It could be a coil pack (AA man told me they go all the time on these cars when I broke down in my Mk6 Fiesta once), spark plug broken, lots of things really.

Hi there

The cars a 53 plate, we've owned it for three years now and it has full service history. Really dont know about HT leads (car mechanics isn't my forte) :o

Could be the Coil Pack or Plugs/HT Leads or even maybe the MAF, Lamba is a possibility too. Is it true that if you disconnect the battery for around 30 mins it will reset the ECU & warning lights on the dash will dissappear & will not come up again until it detects the same problem again?

I've heard stories about something like this when buying a Ford second hand, something to do with the ECU learning the previous owners driving style and operating accordingly. I'm not too sure on the validity of these stories or how/if they relate to the issue we're having. I wouldn't like to attempt this though given the possibility of a potentially serious fault with the car and any actions such as the above may cause more severe repercussions.

Sister owns an 04 MK6 Fiesta, when the o2 sensor went on that the garage charged £160 all in

Thanks for that, thats the sort of information I was after and the sort of price I was expecting to pay for a repair should my "noob" diagnosis be confirmed :(

If it's a misfire, could be coil pack, MAP sensor etc. etc.

A good start is to have the fault code read that is stored in the ECU. ;)

Hi there

Just a little update, our local trusted garage worked on the car for a few hours this morning with no joy. It's not the O2 sensor, the plugs, coil and HT leads have all been changed and the problems still there. He didn't charge us anything for todays work though as he didn't resolve the issue. We did manage to establish there's a miss fire in the 4th cyclinder but they dont know what could be causing it

We've now got it booked into another recommended local, independant garage on Mon morn who will be able to preform a compression test.

Dodgy idle = Running on 3 pots? Or just lumpy, as in Idle Control Valve?

Yup... When mine did this it was firing on 3, so yeh id look at a misfire. Probably coil related. New coilpack and plugs sorted it for my car, well it did for a month i sold it soon after.

was a 1.25lx

Isn't it the 4th cylinder that gets water on the plug due to a leaking washer pipe?

yup mine was all rusty in the 3/4 ports for the plugs, as they had obviously been swimming in water at some point.

edit : just seen the update that all the right things have been changed and its still there. Odd. Ford might need to just reset the ecu.

My money goes on coil pack Had 2 go on my Fiesta since I had it, wouldn't buy a pattern one again as they don't last, I would get the Motorcraft one.
