Anyone know much about these? Mainly problems & reliability? Don't know a lot about them mechanically so trying to find out if they're a good little car or not or if they suffer turbo's going boom, flywheels and the usual diesel traits.

Thanks :)

Other than build quality being a bit shoddy my mum's one has been sound. Certainly no diesel in specific problems and she does quite short miles too. Usual diesel perks (ie sounds like a tractor) but otherwise not a bad little motor we've found.

Slow as a week in the jail, pretty good otherwise. I've not really heard of them suffering the turbo issues associated with the engine in the mk2 focus actually

I did 60k in one (in non S trim.)

It had a slightly frustrating gear ratio. 70mph meant the turbo was spooling - and the mph was a lot worse than driving at 65mph.

Other than that, it was a really nice car. I didn't have any mechanical problems while I owned it. The body panels were paper thin though - and there are no bump protection strips making it easy to get nicks in.

Any particular reason to discount the petrol version instead which doesn't have the potential diesel reliability issues?

Cheap to run and decent reliability, might need to rebuild the turbo core at higher mileage but normal services will keep it running good.

Thanks guys. Ford parts are nice and cheap compared to VAG plus it's much prettier than a Fabia.

Just more so interested in reliability but so far they sound quite solid on that score.

Performance is a bit meh granted but I expect a simple remap would take them to about 115bhp/reasonable torque which would help a lot.

Thanks for the feedback so far! I assume things like suspension bushes, engine mounts and so on aren't too bad either for standing the test of time?

Hi there

I've just recently traded in my MK6 Fiesta 1.6TDCI Zetec Sport which I owned for about two years or so. I did have to replace the valve stem oil seals after noticing a strong smell of diesel in the car. That was quite an expensive repair bill but she was sitting on around 95K at the time.

From my experience as long as they're serviced regularly - oil change being essential due to the turbo then you shouldn't really expect any untoward bills apart from the usual consumables (tyres, brake pads, discs etc). Apart from the issue with the oil seals I never had a problem with mine. I also really struggled to get anything less than 60MPG regardless of my driving style. Granted they're not quick cars but then if you wanted a fast ish Fiesta then you should looking at the Sporting Trophies. . . . . :)

Go for the petrol version, we have it and it's really rather good on fuel, certainly efficient enough to be worth the sacrifice over the diesel.

I had no end of problems with my mk6 ZS tdci, including a temperature sensor failing which resulted in a warped head gasket (iirc, I'm not a mechanic :)), a footwell leak they refused to fix under warranty, and countless engine management problems that they couldn't fix. It's a shame really, as when it was running well, it was a great little car.

Cheers for the replies. Maybe I should consider the 1.6 petrol variant. Are these reliable?

I do like the Fiesta Metal in White if I can get a good deal on one. Plenty of toys etc. I have no need for a bigger car really. Just bored of lowered noisy cars now and I don't drive quickly, so time to get something which drives nicely, quite smooth but still fun and cheap to run and nice looking :)
