MkII MX-5 Speaker Issue

While listening to the radio the other day I thought the balance must have been shifted fully to the left.

After some tinkering it appears that there's less sound coming out of the driver's tweeter than the passenger side.

I whipped off the door cards and swapped the tweeters over but both appear to be working fine.

It seems as if the cross-over is borked but as I understand it, the tweeters are driven from the mid range speaker.

Is this a common fault? Could it be caused by the headunit at all? (seems unlikely).

I would normally use this as an opportunity to upgrade but I don't have the funds at the moment.

I'm hoping there's a simple fix, cheers for any advise.

Could be, but wouldn't that effect the sound coming out of the driver's mid-range as well as the tweeter?

I guess it's pretty easy to pull the head unit out an check.

I just wanted to see if this was a common fault on MX-5s that other members might have come across because we have so many here.

I get the feeling it's something to do with the connection from the mid-range to the tweeter but ran out of time last weekend to narrow it down any further.
