.mkv to PS3

Having a problem with mkv2vob again:( I'm converting a 1GB MKV to mp4 & sticking it on my usb key,but the ps3 is showing no file at all now:confused: Tried pressing triangle-show all,but no luck

Tried a couple of different usb keys, but still the same

Any idea's

Rob

Still no joy:mad:

Just to make sure i'm doing this ok,i should be renaming the file as .MP4, the file is showing on my pc as an mp4 & plays just fine...just not on my PS3

All the other mp4s i have play just fine, but they have been done using PS3video9 convertor & it takes a while for each file,so would much rather be using mkv2vob

Thanks again for the help

Rob

Mkv to vob is a charm to use. Really simple. Really quick and perfect quality. Deffo use it.

Cheers dude.

I tried converting a .mkv HD to mp4 with gotsent but its not showing up? Just streaming it from my harddrive. WMVHD work fine though.

If the resulting MP4 is over 4GB, unfortunately the Xbox will not see it. This is due to a limitation of sharing MP4 files, rather than the 360. You would just need to split the file (I usually split the MKV, and then convert each bit) so it comes in under 4GB.

Rob if MKV2VOB is transcoding the file using MPEG2 then the file extension has to be .MPG or .M2TS

Leave the extension setting in the program as .MPG so that the PS3 can work out what file it is.

That works:eek: nice one mate;) Any idea's how i can't just use MP4 from the drop down menu though ? Will i lose any quality using the mpg setting ?

Thanks again,

Rob

That was naughty Streeteh for saying MP4. Smacked arse for him.

All the MP4 setting is is a container. You'll be losing quality in the first place by a) encoding the original file to an MKV and b) by transcoding it again to MPEG-2 for playback on PS3.

I really wouldn't worry about it though. The things I've watched by doing this process show little to no blockiness and I am a bit of a quality freak.

Thanks for all the info mate:D Should have noticed that you stated that earlier in the thread though

Rob

what i do is set transcoding to never, output file extension to .vob then convert. once its done i change the .vob to .mpg (literally just change the file extension) so that i can stream it via windows media player.
