MKV to Xvid/Divx?

How the hell can I convert an MKV file which has MP4 video and AC3 audio to Xvid/Divx format so that my PS3 can play it. I know mktovob will do it but this results in a huge file. The other problem is that the MKV video is in HD so what would happen when and if I manage to convert it to Xvid/Divx?

So far I've had a look at demuxing the original so I have separate video and audio files but most things I've tried don't like the MP4 video. To add to the equation I would really like the keep the quality but as I've said above I'm unsure if I can.

convertxtodvd will convert it to normal dvd

You can use tsmuxer. It can remux to m2ts files, which the ps3 can play. If the video is encoded using h264, you might be able to get away without reencoding it. It shouldnt increase in size either. This method means the output is essentially the same as the source.

I downloaded handbrake but there's no xvid option, am I missing something?

Load the video, goto the video tab. Where it says video codec (h.264) change to xvid.

Is there a way to say don't process but copy the audio as it seems to reencode it to MP3 and I want to keep it as AC3 5.1

If you use tsmuxer, you won't have to bother reencoding.

I'll try and explain,

Load video

goto the audio/sub tab

select the source you want, then the next tab, Audio codec, select the output.

i use, AVI2DVD by Trustfm, its freeware and pretty straight forward to use.
