in the last day or so i have not been able to visit the MM - the link just returns to the forums page - even the link to the MM rules in the FAQ bounces back to here

i haven't seen anything else about this on the board (although may have missed it)

can anyone enlighten me? (and afaik i haven't done anything naughty)

thanks

nope
zen 2mb
opera 8.5

i think i will try clearing out my browser cache to see if it alters things

thanks for checking - it only started happening after the ip address 82.243 etc started appearing in the address bar for the forums a day or so ago, rather than forums.overclockers.co.uk etc

The server IP has changed, but it should have affected the url. Not on any of my machines anyway.

But yeah, a cache purge is always a good start. Moving to software as it seems to be just you :)

well tried logging out + cache purge plus using a different pc

all to no avail :( the MM still doesn't work for me
i will try it from a work pc on a different ip address to see if that makes any difference

its the only bit of the site doing this...

It might be some sort of spyware protection sticking its nose in or something - maybe it thinks the address has been spoofed since the IP changed :dunno:

OK sorted
if anyone else is having this problem you need to edit your HOSTS file

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts

Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

(you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000/XP)

open with notepad and enter

83.245.33.200 forums.overclockers.co.uk then save it again

things now sorted
thanks for looking into it otacon :)

TBH, I'd be worried if you have to hard code your hosts file. Should the IP address of the forums change again you'll be stuffed until you change your hosts file again.

What IP address gets returned if you do a DNS lookup on forums.overclockers.co.uk?

Edit - You mentioned Zen which got me thinking. What DNS servers are you using? If you're still using 212.23.8.1 and 212.23.8.6 then you'll be having problems because they are due to have decomissioned those servers at the end of January. You should be using 212.23.3.100 and 212.23.6.100.

dns lookup
forums.overclockers.co.uk. A IN 86400 83.245.33.200
overclockers.co.uk. NS IN 86400 ns0.serverstream.net.
overclockers.co.uk. NS IN 86400 ns1.serverstream.net.
overclockers.co.uk. NS IN 86400 ns2.serverstream.net.
overclockers.co.uk. NS IN 86400 ns3.serverstream.net.
ns0.serverstream.net. A IN 86400 80.253.108.11
ns1.serverstream.net. A IN 86400 213.232.91.11
ns2.serverstream.net. A IN 86400 213.232.90.11
ns3.serverstream.net. A IN 86400 83.245.34.1

the dns servers i have are the correct ones
could it be anything do with my netgear dg834g router?

if i remove the host files entry it just loops back to 84.245.33.200

not really sure what is going on - will reboot the router to see if it makes any difference

Possibly not necessarily. I *think* you rely on the ISP's host file, not your own one, but your own one will override the ISP's one. I have trouble geting to another forum due to their IP adresses, but never thought to try editing my hosts file to get around it.

You may find if you leave it a day or so it might rectify itself if the ISP hosts has got behind.
