I need to purchase an angle grinder, I've had a quick look in Screwfix and am unsure on what to get firstly they come in different bore sizes 22mm and 22.2mm. Does it really matter which I get, will a 22.2mm disc not fit a 22mm bore grinder or is 22/22.2mm a generic size?

Also I'll be cutting concrete, sandstone, marble tiles and metal rod. Is it best to get a multi purpose disc or specific discs or a diamond blade. I take it a diamond blade will last longer as it's loads more expensive?

Diamon blades are awesome and last ages, well worth paying extra for. They cut through tiles like a hot knife through butter.

Diamond is the toughest stuff known on the planet, so if it is on your grinder discs, it will cut anything :-)

probably.

Can i assume you want it for diy and not pro/work use?Try to avoid the very cheapest.a diamond blade is a good idea as they do not decrease in size when worn
as for the bore diameter I would recommend trying to match the sizes, you do not want the blade to wobble(saying that I do not expect that .2mm is anything to be worried about in a cheep cutter)

Get a diamond blade, I keep asking work to get some because the blades we use blunt after doing a few dozen cuts.
Which isn't fun because it likes to jump about wildly/ fling bricks/ go shooting toward your legs with no warning when it blunts. Considering a set of googles on a rare occasion is about as far as we go with safety gear as well...

Can't really give much advice on grinders but as for a make i would without a doubt go with Makita.

+1 for the make.

As for cutting blades for steel I'd be getting normal fibre type discs.
diamond for the concrete and marble as you will get a much nicer cut and finish.

Diamond is great for masonry, brick, marble etc, but not so good on steel. Iron eats the diamond away from the blade, so use a resin one instead for steels.

ALWAYS WEAR EYE/FACE PROTECTION!

Buy some proper impact goggles, not the glasses, but the goggles. You will find them unweildy, but when a piece of brick / pebbles in concrete / shard hits anything unprotected, you will be glad that you wore them. Because it hurts like hell!

I would also recommend ear protectction, especially when operating indoors. Basic ear plugs will do, but the ear muff type will last loads longer.

Try to get one with a variable speed, I prefer this to the fixed speed versions, as often then not for most softer things you dont need full power.

Aye and don't use it wearing trainers...
Been there, done that and got the scar on my big toe to prove it !
(lucky to actually have a big toe!!)
