Ok guys! I know each one of these have flaws but I can't find any reviews on Secret World or Tera so I'd like to hear from the community here about which to go for.

Secret World looks slightly unique which would be quite fun but what differs it from the established WoW?

I played the Tera beta and it was fun but I hear it's pretty much a ghost town.

If anyones played both I'd be very thankful to hear your comments on both.

If I can't find anything it's back to WoW after about a years break.

Disclaimer: I'm aware your tastes may differ from mine and it's just your opinion.

I have experience with your dilemma.

Tera - I loved the combat, instances were good (no group finder when I played) and PvE wasn't bad, open world Pvp could be fun and was fairly easy to avoid most of the time. Decent classes and required more 'skill' and timing perhaps than wow. Game looks brilliant too. However it just lost the fun for me after a few weeks, don't know why but for some reason I just couldn't be bothered putting the time in. Never got to endgame so can't comment on that.

TSW - Interesting game, slightly different than just go kill x mobs quests although some of the thinking quests don't even make sense when you follow a walkthrough, but most are pretty solid and all I played were fun. Game probably looks very nice but to get it to run beyond an hour without a memory failure I had to have everything turned low (only 4gb ram here). Good levelling system, basically you never need to reroll a character if you're happy with your starting 'race' or organisation. Very dark and gloomy (but not in a bad way) and has zombies etc.. When I upgrade my computer I'd probably go back and play more. Never knew anyone playing so didn't do much grouping but pvp (in battleground style) was good and there is one main instance.

Wow - you know this, still busy, still fun, still cartoony, MoP coming out in a couple of months. Make a Hunter they'll be overpowered.

In conclusion, if your PC can handle it then try out TSW if not I'd personally stick to WoW. If you get TERA cheap at the moment you could try it until MoP comes out. They're all good in their own ways but Wow is still my favourite.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Djdz.

Yea I'm tempted by all three but I know even with being able to play a load it'd still only make sense to play one of them. I might grab TSW today and then if I dislike it I'll just go back to WoW.

Tera was so fun in beta but I hear it's just a dead endgame experience T_T

I know you said stick to the list but..... Gw2?

I knew someone would come in and say this XD

I disliked the first, it just had a weird feeling while not having really any obvious faults I could pick out. I'll probably pick it up when it comes out but for now I'll do with one of the above.

GW2 is nothing like GW1. Yes, the lore is there, and of course its based in the same world. But in terms of the gameplay and the tech behind it, its vastly different.

I played all 3 of the above MMOs you mention. Tera looks great and feels polished, but its a rather typical Asian MMO and I just lost interest quite quickly as it was just more of what I've played dozens of times before. Very grindy feel. The combat is a bit different and requires a bit of timing but its just not enough to make the whole game worth it.

Secret World is a refreshing change. Nice skill system that allows you to create you're own role. The quests are a mixed bag. Some are really interesting and get you thinking. Some nice puzzles dotted around. But some quests are pretty boring. The combat I found to be pretty bad. Jerky animations, didn't feel very responsive and many of the abilities just looked boring when performed. One weapon swing looked pretty much like all the others. I played through the main story of my character(which didnt take long) and then I lost interest. Not much to do after that to keep your interest. The game breaker for me was the world itself. It made me realise just how much I like the fantasy genre. Modern day and sci-fi just doesn't do it for me.

I've played WoW on and off for many years and its always been my go to MMO. If you're not interested in GW2 then imo go back to WoW. With the new expansion coming there will be much hype and it'll be a fun time to play. Just don't expect anything new. Some old wow.

But i'd strongly suggest trying GW2. Its free to play(after you buy the game!) and it truely is the MMO I've been waiting for, for a very long time. PLayed all of the beta events and I'm loving it. The release can't come soon enough.

See what Spengos said.

I disliked GW1 but GW2 is light years different and a truly frigging awesome game, would really recomend it. Only based on BWE experience but was massively impressed by that.

¬.¬ Well that's me put off of TSW after reading what little I could on it from Google and the replies here.

T_T Guess I'll go pick up a WoW timecard after getting a scroll then try GW2 when it releases.

The Secret World

TSW is running a free trial this weekend. It runs til 7am Monday 6th.

It's the one I'm playing atm. I hate the PvP but the PvE experience and atmosphere are unique. Some of the missions are downright creepy, even scary. It also just got its 1st monthly content update which added some new missions and nightmare-mode dungeons.

I think "immersive" is the word I'm looking for. If you use guides/walkthroughs and rush through it, it will suck. If you take your time to experience the world (which just happens to be my style) you will love it.

Combat can feel a bit shallow early on, because the deepest part of it is building your deck aka build. Or should I say decks since the more difficult content assumes that you'll be able to switch roles when needed. The builds in this seem pretty simple at first because you're limited to 7 active and 7 passive abilities at any one time. That seems really dumbed-down to those of us accustomed to 4+ action bars, but the variety is there. There are different types of attack that synergise with each other, there are mobility abilities (teleports, charges, dashes), purges, cleanses, group buffs, DoTs & debuffs, interrupts, direct heals, shields, HoTs, leech effects and some aggro abilities. I might have missed some.

So for example I have a DPS deck with some AE and roots for solo play, and swap in a couple of healing abilities for tougher solo fights or mobs that are immune to root effects. In groups/dungeons, I can swap out the AE abilities for bigger single-target nukes and a gropu damage buff, and I can swap in a cleanse and/or purge to help the healer out, or swap in some direct heals and swap a couple of damage talismans (ie. gear) for healing gear, and take the role of off-healer. That's where TSW's combat depth comes in.

When it comes to nightmare modes and the upcoming raid you can also plan your deck according to what other people in your group are building.

Ctrl+F my name in here and see if I can't change your mind :D Might as well at least give the free trial a go while it lasts :)

Bad points:
- Certain combat animations are a bit wonky, personally I only have one ability whose animation doesn't match its activation time so it's not really an issue for me.
- The UI isn't great for healers, and the addons to change it aren't fully mature yet. They do work, they just need some polish to make them more user-friendly.
- The auction house is broken... but happily the "bazaar" addon fixes it.
- No raid yet - it's due at the end of August.

I was originally waiting for the free trial this weekend but I moved home last month and the internet doesn't get installed till the 10th -_- I'm on a paid Wi-fi for the apartment block I'm in and it's just fast enough to play games but too slow to download a significant amount.

Which is why I wasn't able to try it T_T
