Hello need some advice.

I was a huge huge huge Neverwinter Nights fan back in the day, couldn't get me off it until NWN2 came out and completely knacked the online play of the old, and it never took off in the second.

I've waited about for AOC but it seems like a mixed bag so far and not really inviting me to take the plunge.

I've never played WOW or LOTRs online so was wondering which was the best one out there for me so far.

TBH i just wish they made The Witcher MP then i'd not have to be asking this question.

So which one would be best? (would love an opinion from people who've played them all - anyone out there?)

Yeah i really like LOTRs, in fact i really enjoyed the several LOTR's mods on NWN's.

WOW is it a bit cartooney and dated?

As for style i want to do missions by myself than also to group up, and then when there's not much to do battle others or make friends etc...

The trial iades are great, didn't know about the free trials, so starting with EVE, which is downloading now.

Are there expansion packs that are needed for WOW?

~I take it they are all priced around £10pm?

This is all great info people, thanks very much, but what does Eq2 and DAoC stand for?

Had a bash on EVE, a bit intense in terms of menus and all these bits and bobs, but the concept so far sits with me, not sure if its a payer for me yet, early impressions would say probably not.

Downloading LOTRs and will give that a shot.

I think i want a character based MMO rather than a ship (i guess i never get off my ship) i was hoping for an online mass effect.

To be honest, I'd say the best MMO in terms of PvP and PvE at the moment is WoW, although the main problem is that you have to level all the way up to 70 before you can really enjoy the game to its full, the journey up to level 70 isn't that great.

I don't mind the grind, i loved it on NWN and found myself with 100's of character over loads of mods due to that.

Can i only have one character, or can i have as many as i want? Is it one world or loads of different ones?

Excellent post Kami, much appreciated.

Did you ever play the 1st NWN? And which one is closeet to it in style?

Yeah i have no RL friends to play any of these games unfortunately.

PC gaming is very much my thing, which is a shame, but when playing NWN's i made lots of friends over there and felt very right at home on a specific mod, an i was hoping for the same kind of thing.

Computer spec inc E600 @3.2 4gb DDR2 8800GTS 512mb, so AoC should run well enough.

Well so far impressions suggest i wont be getting in to either LOTRs or EVE. :(

EVE looks a great game, very indepth experience and i'm guessing once you are in you are in, but for me it's just not sucking me in, i'm finding it very boring.

As for LOTR's it just seems flat in terms of just about everything, some terrible screen tearing which isn't fixing with v-sync on and really horrible control system.

Looks like i will need to download wow now and give that a shot, by the sounds of things it is what i'm looking for.

I've got a couple of months to kill, its why i'm looking about, trying to stay in and save money and my liver which is praying for a decent holiday.

Wow is giving me horrible download rates. Eve & LOTR's were a solid 500k all the way through, the is barely getting 100k and is talking about 13 hours +

Well wow is probably the most enjoyable of the ones i've tried so far, but still falls flat of what i'm looking for.

I cannot believe there is nothing out there that can rival free NWN online gameplay from 6 years ago, the graphics have yet to be beaten which is criminal considering.

Looks like i'm going to have to wait for AoC to settle down, solid mature graphics, mature content, just the rest of it that needs sorted apparently.

Dissapointed to say the least. :(

I'm up to level 9, but am finding the whole thing very cartoony, its not sucked me in and i feel i'm playing for the sake of it.

The MP of NWN's original and the graphics and content of The Witcher has really spoiled me, put the two together and we'd have 100% what i'm looking for.

I'll play all 3 (EVE, LOTR & WOW) until the free ends, but i cannot see me going past that unfortunately.

NWN was all about character levelling, it just did it in such better style, you controlled your special feats, your stat points (str, dex, con etc) mixed classes such as fighter/ranger, whatever you wanted really.

The items were better, the party mode was better, the communications were better, the graphics were spot on topped off with a really good movement system instead of being stuck with wasd.

Each mod was something different as well, people made their own, or expanded a certain one changing a few things and it was like having over 100 different games to play at any time.

The levelling isn't personal enough or clear enough, enemies are not described, don't show their feats and abilities and are just an extra level for being tougher, its lazy.

There is a 100 other things bugging me in these games when i'm there, but you know how it is, i'm not getting a notepad out but i'm left short of the game i'm looking for, i just want NWN2 to pick itself up off its arse and develop a community, but i feel WOW and the likes of has sucked away the players while NWN2 was in development, and they haven't returned.

Biggest mistake Bioware made was announcing NWN2, as soon as they did people stopped making mods and stopped updating and running the good and the great ones.

Also there was a lot more dungeon grinding rather than monsters just on roads, just lying about for loads of people to come through to cull. Its just not personal, it lacks character, it lacks meaning, you kill a monster on WOW and another one pops up right behind you, in NWN you cleared your path and usually end up somewhere with an ending, rather than random respawns. A drawback is if someone had just gone through that area you had a wait for it to reset, but the experience was a much better one, for me at least.

You will never beat the nwn1 experience, ive played all the mmo's and still not found anything.
I enjoyed EQ2, GW, WoW, D&DOnline, LotRO and im now enjoying AoC.
But i could never spend enough time on these mmo's (with the exception of GW) to get to end game (or even high lvl instances as PUGs are generally bad and people quit to easily) so i never really felt like i was getting anywhere.

NWN PW's you feel like your doing something in the time you play and you have DM interacting to make it thrilling.

There are some good (if not great) NWN2 PW's out there and im hoping Dragon Age will be stunning. Also i think NWN2 got a lot better with MotB, not sure how the PW's used all the extras to their advantage.

Just find a mmo you like and stick with it till you get bored and go back to nwn ;)
I like AoC because its new and everyone isnt leet.

Which ones?
