MMORPG's that are NOT WoW?

I'm playing PotBS at the moment and EQ2. I've cancelled my EQ2 account though as I'm getting tired of the game now, same old same old. But, if you have never played it before I recommend it at of all the MMO's currently out there.

PotBS is a turd unless you are really into PvP and doing the same old cack over and over around a tiny map, pap avatar combat also, lots of improvement and promises by the devs for the "future". So I wont be buying that after the pre-boarding.

AoC I cant really say much about, suffice to say I wont be playing it when released in March or whenever.

You might want to try Vanguard which is under the SOE station access package. So in effect if you bought that you could play EQ2, Vanguard and PotBS for 24.99 I think it is a month. Vanguard is a giant seemless world like WoW, I dont know what the state of the game is though now, but I didnt think it was that bad when I played it.

Tabule Rasa was fun for a few weeks but I got a bit bored and didnt renew.

I think I'm just getting fed up of the whole MMO thing now, old age I guess :P

Playing Tabula Rasa almost exclusively at the moment. A nice change of pace after all the orcs 'n elves stuff. Don't know if it'll last me more than a couple of months, but it's well worth a look as something to keep you going.

The way npc allies and enemies constantly spawn and fight on the front lines really gives the game a great atmosphere too.

i need something like this too :( the diablo games were always perfect in my eyes but oc iv played them way too much '+ diablo 1 bnet is down forever :(' is there any other games like that???

You could try signing up for Mythos beta. It's very similar to Diablo.

www.mythos.com

Good thing about this, as opposed to a MMORPG, is that you can pick it up and drop it at any time. You don't feel obliged to play it constantly.

No offence, but most people seem really deluded.

WoW will only be beat if it closes down, that wont happen.

Warhammer is crap, i've tested it for nearly 6 months, played as many classes as i could get my hands on, you have too many, crap combat, no polish and comedy gone wrong.

Age of Conan, well lets just say its a great idea again gone horribly wrong. Combat is appalling, story is appalling and the graphics are EQ2 mk2. Clunky.

In the end, WoW has destroyed and dominated the MMO area, there wont be another game like it. Take it while its there.

Getting bored and I need a new game to play, used to play WoW but I sold my account a few months back because it just became so boring to play.

Are there any new MMO's just out or coming out very soon? Or any with betas that can be tried?

I've played lots of MMO's from EQ1 onwards and it sounds like EQ2 would suit you down to the ground.

They're constently adding content, there's 3 (or is it 4 now?) expansions available, 3 mini-expansions, lots of classes, the audio is brilliant, lore is good, stacks of quests and the graphics ain't too shabby either (Echoes of Fawdwer expansion is particularly cool). Crafting has had a few overhauls but I never got into it (not a big crafting fan tbh). If raids are your thing there's a bunch of high end content, the only weak point to EQ2 is the pvp -- from what I've been told anyway -- I don't pvp. There's an insane amount of stuff you can mess around with, from collection quests, titles, decorating your house, guild writs (guilds have levels you can increase) etc etc etc.

So go with EQ2 now, or try to get in on the AoC or Warhammer beta's when you can. Good luck!

The MMORPG market is sucking bad now, I found a 10 day Star wars galaxies trial I am downloading. I know it has PvP just now sure how it is (loot/none loot?).

I think both Warhammer and AoC will do ok, you're right though that neither will beat WoW in terms of subscription bases, though a large portion of the WoW user base is the asian market. If the last survey I read still stands the asian market counts for nearly 6million of the 9million touted subscriptions.

Having said that, I dont really give a flying cluck about subscriptions, the 2 best MMOs I have ever played were Daoc and UO (easily the best ever imo), and neither of those achieved more than 300,000 subscriptions really. I'm in the warhammer beta too, and so far I am finding it enjoyable, even more so in the last month. Everyone has different tastes though of course.

Retainment will be the key for AoC and Warhammer if they are to do well, there are a lot of bored WoW players around at the moment, folks who have either quit WoW out of sheer boredom (that was me last august :) ) , or folks who play WoW even though they find it boring because they havent got anything else to play MMOwise at the moment. Theres a gap in the market there, and a userbase ready to jump into the gap for the right product. Course, WoW is in a very comfortable place at the moment though, they could totally lose all their european and north american accounts and still do perfectly well with just their asian accounts (and vice versa). WoW isnt going anywhere soon and they will be the 100lb gorilla of the MMO market for a while yet but, thank god, they wont be the only option

I'm actually quite enjoying Fiesta at the moment, it's free to play, has a bizarre cute anime sort of style and is quite good fun.

I still play WOW but im totaly deluded with it, looking at some of the screen shot of the next expack I keep seeing the same textures that I was seeing back in beta. I mean one of the saleing point of the next expack is new hair style, thats a basic thing that should have be there from day one. Hero classes has been talked about from beta and now 3+ years later we are getting one. One? IMO The core of the wow player base is ready to jump ship, there is no depth to WOW other than the gear grinding.

No player/guild housing.
No player/guild own and controled boats/airships.
No real world defendable/controlable areas(world pvp junk ingame now does not pass for that).
No guild vs guild pvp other than that you make yourself.
No class balance, just the round robin of overpoweredness.
The game braker PVE gear for PVE and PVP gear for PVP with no crossover other than PVP to PVE.

No player/guild housing.

Thats not needed, everyone either lives in Shattrah or the major faction cities like Orgrimmar and Ironforge.

No player/guild own and controled boats/airships.

Again not needed, boats and zepp's automatically take you where ever you need.

No real world defendable/controlable areas(world pvp junk ingame now does not pass for that).

There is in each zone in TBC pvp controlled objectives that give zone wide buffs, in WOTLK there thinking about adding server wide buffs.

No guild vs guild pvp other than that you make yourself.

You can get world pvp on some servers, just depends really. Plus battlegrouns and arena is rife with pvp.

No class balance, just the round robin of overpoweredness.

To make classes unique you have to sacrifice balance, would you like to play a game where you have 2 factions and each faction's character choices where exactly the same as the other, just different colour and shape?

The game braker PVE gear for PVE and PVP gear for PVP with no crossover other than PVP to PVE.

That is the only issues.

Not needed? That is why the game has become rather dull, Raiding and PVP that is it nothing else to the game.

Faction rep grind = dull

Arenas 10 matchs a week = dull after a few weeks if your group class and spec makeup is not right. Some classes all but locked out of arenas and others domanate it.

Battlegrounds full on bots as its dull to play the same battlegrounds for +3 years.

World PVP in TBC dull cause there is very little point to it after you hit 70.

Raiding is ok but pointless outside of raiding.

You may not see the game for what it is, which is a dumb down mmorpg with some good raid dungeons and fun leveling. Outside of that the games a joke.

I think you're right. Quit before TBC came out and could see where it was going. From the sounds of it they have fiddled with it too much and not put some basic content in there.

The ideal wow would be a combined EQ2/WOW clone. Plus the community is abysmal.
