I read a comment in a thread here the other day, I'm sure it was related to a poor port or the game being released on a console first. This has happened so many times, the console is getting priority and a lot of PC action game fans are feeling left out.

Someone asked what does PC actually have thats ahead of consoles - with someones answer being flight simulators.

Thinking about it, I cant recall a truly successful MMORPG on a console, yet isnt WoW the most popular game? I know a lot of the MMO audience is from Asia, but a considerable number of Westeners also must play with that genre.

Im not sure why MMO games arent popular on consoles, but my question for discussion is - how important are they for PC gaming?

To be honest I'm sick of this whole 'pc gaming is dying' debate, it's been done to death

Your comment could have easily been put in one of these two topics.
Sorry if I seem snippy, it's just getting old coming on here to be told daily how gaming on the pc is dying even though I have so many damn pc games right now I can't get round to playing them all.
Empire total war
dead space
call of juarez 2 being the latest 3 I bought >.>

Well, I wasnt trying to say it was 'dying' or even becoming unpopular - Im talking in terms of the games and quality, not exclusively the actual numbers playing them.

Like I said PC gaming isnt dying because there are so many MMO's.

Interesting comment about being geeks - it does seem consoles are so much more mainstream now. During the original playstation years it seemed to be only teenagers and young adult males you were the target audience, now lots of the games in the charts are family/kids games.

^ This.

Not only that, but it has been done to death for YEARS. The last ten years at least. Yet year after year amazing, immersive and rewarding PC games are released.

STFU about it now TBH.

We're discussing why MMO games are popular on PC's and not consoles and we've had some interesting inputs. Its not about PC gaming is dying, it just appeals to a different crowd.

Consoles are so popular, even though a lot of people will see them as casual gamers, there are some hardcore console gamers. But given there are so many consoles and players now, surely a good quality MMO would succeed? Or would it?

I think for the time being they will remain relatively exclusive for PC gamers.

Also nobody is denying amazing games are released for PC's, but their main exclusives remain MMO's.

+1 we're quite spiffy thanks :)
MMO's do play a fairly large role in keeping PC's a great gaming platform, buts i don't feel that its the be all and end all

So why have console developers resisted the MMO route, because theres plenty of examples of console first then pc, but not long ago it was the other way round.
