I'm a big fan of mmorpgs and the game that I looked forward to being released the most was EVE-online(was waiting for about 3 years for it to come out) and after that came out I purchased very few single player games think it's been about four since EVE Beta(HL 2, Republic Commando, X3 & Oblivion) . Do any of you mmo'ers feel the same, that single player games just don't seem to have the appeal as the mmorpgs?

With the expection of Oblivion and X3 there have been very few single player games that have really grabbed my attention since my foray into the world of mmos

E.g despite X3 been in a different league technically to EVE, I never felt the need to stay up to until the early hours playing it compared to EVE. Where I once set my alarm clock to 03:30 be up to catch the guy from America who I was purchasing my first Megathron from, as Teir 2 BS's were not widely available at the time.

its multiplayer all the way, be that Lotro or 2142 , without the input of other human players the gaming experience just isnt there in todays single player games ... gabbing away to each other whilst blowing stuff up cant be beaten and i miss games like tribes 14v14 ladder matches or bf1942 wars etc

the only single player game that looks as good as old school games like Deus Ex or Half-life is Bioshock, i will purchase that but doubt it will come close to winning a match with 2seconds left on the clock

I play both MMOs, singleplayer and multiplayer games.

MMOs satisfy my need for exploring and adventuring in huge worlds with many other players and has regular support from the company that makes it which is great. Although there are times i see a really good singleplayer game that i just have to buy, like Call of Duty for example. The singleplayer campaign was incredible, so was CoD2. Currently subscribed to EQ2 and EVE :D

I prefer to buy games if they have multiplayer such as CSS, BF2/2142, etc to satisfy my need for some intense gaming (when compared to MMOs)

I love single players and MMO's. When I was playing UO (for around 6 years) I played very very few single player games. Now I seem to play more single player games than MMO's. Probably because 99% of MMO's out now arn't worth playing for more than a month.

I've only ever finished MOH:AA, COD, COD2 and FEAR.

Generally, I play singleplayer until I've got a hang of gameplay/weapons, then I jump into the game's multiplayer and don't go back.

I don't mind MMOs. My first was a MUD that you played through Telnet. These days though, I find them a little too time consuming.

Single Player>Multi Player>>>>>>>>>MMO

for me, i just find every MMO i've tried intensely dull and repetitive, LOTR is tempting me because im a HUGE LOTR fan, but im worried it'll just be WOW with a LOTR skin, more grinding. Quite looking forward to see how the Warhammer 40K MMO turns out though.

Until multiplayer games only allow people with an IQ higher than 30 - I'll always prefer single player unfortunately! Too many multiplayer games are spoilt by idiots!

WoW hater huh? Me to, but all mmos don't have a 99.9% 12 year old player community. AoC sounds really great, it is coming out in October I think.

guildwars was the only MMO i was able to get into (was terrible...lost a year of my life, literally) and after that fiasco i know i can never go back to an MMO, i just can't not play it once i'm into it. I prefer now to play multi player FPS, as i can just pick it up and play without worrying about the need to level up, or gaining money, and i can put it down without thinking "well, the next quest will only take 20 minutes (and so on).

multi-player>MMO>single player

Playing against humans is the way forward. Apart from 'build an empire' games like M2:TW or Rollercoaster tycoon I just get no satisfaction from playing against and beating AI enemies.

Single player FPS games just seem like I am shooting wave after wave of identical characters that don't even care when they die. It's hardly the excitement of an intense gunfight in BF2 where the other person can do something totally unexpected and actually cares when you kill them :D The same goes for RTS and sports games; single player seems so tame after playing online.

Fixed.

Although I do love BF2/2142 :D

MMO's are for people with no real-life worth living IMO.

Every time a mate mentions WoW, I can't help but laugh.

I love MMO's and other gametypes, I usually find time to play all sorts but while I was a SWG fanatic I didnt spend a penny on any new games for years, no other game has kept me so addicted like that, not even WOW, and my account sold for 610 quid!

MP FPS is where it'll always be though.

Difficult for me to comment as I've never played an MMOG, but in general I think a lot of people feel like this when they are heavily in to a multiplayer game.

From late1998 to late2003 I only completed half a dozen single player games and 99% of my gaming time was spent playing Quakeworld. Since then I've got more back in to SP games and have completed over 60.

Due to personal circumstances I've not really done much multiplayer at all in the last 18 months. My gaming in general has been forced to reduce and it is the multiplayer side of things which has been culled. To be frank I think it's highly unlikely I will ever be seriously involved in MP gaming again, at least not in the forseeable future.

Or maybe for people who have a couple of hours spare when they aren't working/D.I.Y'ing/training/spending time with the girlfriend/out with mates or watching the two T.V programmes a week worth watching.

Not yet, I'm disappointed with nearly every MMO. Due to well basically its a click based game rather than fps. Until that changes I'll still prefer multilayer games. Hopefully Huxley will be the first of the true MMOFPS games.

With the exception of Planetside, I find every MMORPG is the same boring old thing. It's good for a month, then I just feel like theres no point to them. The difference was that Planetside was not a grind to level up, you didn't have stupid quests like kill 20 animals and stuff, though the training in EVE was a system I liked. I just wish they would make a Planetside 2, as this is the only game I'd fork out for a new PC to play. Anyway, I much prefer single player games.
