MOAR power to fan?

I remember some of my Electronics A-Level, so potentially not a novice. Might be a fun little project, making a kind of super boost switch.

You willing to give a short idea as what I'd need to do at all?

You can pick up prebuilt DC-DC boost converters for a couple of quid from our Chinese friends that should work out ok. Just make sure that they can handle the current the fan will demand.

I'd expect that overvolting the fan will also overvolt the spinning LED array and that may have some strange effects. Would be interesting to see the results though.

Before you invest though try hunting for a greater than 12v wall adaptor of some kind. You may find some 15vDC, 18vDC ones kicking about if you hoard stuff like me. You could also run a couple of 9v batteries in series to give you 18v.

Yeah I would search the auction site for a adjustable boost DC DC that has a output range of > 12v. I would hack a molex power extension or something and try it with 12v in the input side, connected to a multimeter first while you set the pot to get the desired output voltage. I'm not sure I'd give the fan too much voltage, and I'd also look at supplying the brushkess motor and not the led array with > 12v. Does the led sequence use a microcontroller do you know?
