So,

Previous Build Log: H440: Optimus Sublime!

For my build, one thing was a big problem. My 290 Tri-x was yellow.. A huge problem as my OCD was causing me to toss and turn at night (at at at nig... sorry I'll stop there). So I had planned to paint the bugger and just got around to it today. I didn't take as many pictures as I should have, but it was very straight forward to take the heat sink off and most of the time was spent waiting for it all to dry.

One thing I would say is that I was not very patient at all. I was supposed to give 3 hours per coat between sprays, but gave maybe 30 minutes... this meant that I got finger prints and dust all over the thing as well as scratching some of the colouring... I fixed it up slightly with some WarHammer paints but if I was to do it again ... I would pay someone with more patience than I have to do it!

- Taking the heatsink took maybe 5 minutes, had to be careful not to damage anything as it was pretty glued on! You have to rock it back and forth slowly and take your time.

- Had this 290 for maybe 2 years now so it is well and truly in need or a re-paste!

- And a damned good clean! I used a bike pump and its nozzel to get in between it all and get it nice and clean.

- I primed it in grey first (all I had left) with a can of car primer I got for maybe £2 off the rainforest. Then 2 coats of some red fake plasticoat stuff.

- Done! I plan to maybe print some stickers for the yellow ones in the middle of the fans, but you can't see them in the case.

- The finished article in the case. Can't see much red at all, but my OCD knows that it is there :D.

- A close up. You might notice that the left side fan isn't running ... I'll have to make sure to plug it in when I go in next >_> >_>

Overall, happy with it. Ideally, I would have taken my time a bit more but it looks good from where I am sitting!

If anyone has any questions, let me know.

Cheers,

Grady
