Mobil Synt S

Anyone any thoughts on this oil? Will be doing a few track days over the summer (car will be serviced before hand) and I'm thinking I may supply some good oil to the garage who will be carrying out the work. Pretty sure they normally use GM 10W-40.

With the current offer, I can get 4 litres for just under £30 delivered. Worth getting some stash away in my cupboard?

Car is a 2003 Saxo VTS.

That's the same oil that was used on my clio 197 when it was being serviced (and I presume my megane when it comes round to it) and had a top up bottle of it.

Not sure what else to say really, errrm the engine didn't blow up with it in and survived a handful of trackdays!

I really wouldnt worry yourself when driving an old saxo matey. Halfords fully synth will be ample.

I've just done an oil change using this in my Integra and can confirm that it is indeed very oily.

LOL... my question should have been: Is it worth paying a little bit extra for this oil over some GM 10W-40... considering the engine will be taking some abuse? £30 a good price for 4 litres?

Just use oil, unless the things mint or the engine has had extensive work or recent rebuild... I wouldn't really bother.

TBH unless your after a different oil to run it in with, I'd just stick to any old Synthetic oil of the right grade.

If you are running a race spec engine then I would spend the cash on fancy oil but go with whatever your engine builder recommends. Dad's engine builder always supplies us with Millers CFS Competition full synthetic engine oil but it's £60 for 5L :eek:

...... and as that's the only oil of the right grade I could find in the garage when the lawnmower needed its oil changing....

Engine just has breathing mods... it's a good low mileage example though so would be nice to keep it that way.

All oils are like that though. You have to read the small print.

A headline name of "Synt S" makes you think it is fully synth... but it's not. That's just marketing bull.

Get one of the better Mobil oils, they're only slightly more expensive.

Synt S was fine but as soon as I put the better stuff in the engine was clearly more lubricated because letting off the throttle at highway speeds the car did not slow down as quickly (i.e. engine braking). Read into that what you will...

I remember buying a bottle of that stuff from Helfrauds and it turns out it was semi synth so I took it back. Mobil1 is the one you want if its fully synth you're after. Cheapest place I know of is Costco at £20 + VAT for a 4ltr bottle, if you or a friend has a membership.

"Mobil Synt S 5W-40 uses high performance synthetic base oils together with an advanced additive system" whatever that means!

Think I'll just stick some of the Citroen recommended Total Quartz 9000 in... 5 litres of fully synthetic oil for £22 from GSF.
