Mobile 8800

so 7950GTX is about as good as it gets until the die-shrink? (not interested in SLi - would like more than 3.2minutes of battery life and a bush-fire rating of fair or lower :D

actually it was the 1710 I was looking at - had a good giggle when 'steve' told me that the battery would last between 5 and 6 hours :D

Any idea what an accurate figure is for them with the 7950's both high and low power usage?

Awesome - would appreciate that - looking at the reviews (once I'd wiped the drool from my keyboard) they reconned about 2hrs with the screen at 6/7 brightness and wifi on full so looks pretty good - love to know how long it lasts in Oblivion! :D

Well thats a closer price to what i had seen.. Although i dont actually want a dell, im planning to go with another competitor, but probably cant post on here.

Is a: T7400 2.16ghz, 2 gig RAM, 7950GTX 120Gig HDD for £1500 all inc.. So probably be my purchase. As much as i like dell i hate there Laptop cases.

Yep - that's the price that they offered me over the phone on Saturday - still plenty of room to come down I think - also hoping for the £1200 mark then I'll bite their arm off!

If it really can do 3h+ I'll be a happy man - sick of having to change battery half way through movies - tried to watch Munich the other day and it killed both batteries - still haven't seen the end

Just wish I could afford one of those m2010's 20.1" screen..... oooooooo....... mmmmmmm....... ooooooo...... Damn - another keyboard ruined! :D

you've been sterilised by the xps

Don't play it on my lap, need a flat surface so the fans can keep my oc'd cpu/gpu in check :p

What are you using to Oc the CPU/GPU, and have you got one of those laptop coolers to go with it (not seen any for 17" ones out there yet?)

Let us know if reverting to XP helps - have you got the latest Vista drives - apparently Nvidia have finally released some none Beta ones - might help?

Nice- as expected Vista needs some Drivers written for it before it really is a gaming platform - I suspect I'm not going to have the option of XP as it will come with only Vista which will be a shame - oh well - will just have to wait for those drivers - which ones are you running - new ones or Betas?

Cool - might have to track you down when I get it and see if I can steal some of those from you! Would seem a shame to run it at stock when we all know that's a crime on the C2D's :D

Well I have to say I'm beginning to remember why I swore never to go back to Dell - after 2 days of arguing, the rep has now point blank refused to email me a quote and the spec list of the laptop I'm trying to buy - if I want to see what I'm buying I'll have to order it, and then if I'm a very good boy they'll put something in writing and send it to me :(   (I've run out of emoticons to express the various things I'm feeling at this point - mostly because there isn't one that covers the feelings you have for stuff you scrape off the sole of your shoe!)

As always I'm amazed when companies go out of their way to stop you spending your money with them. I spend 30 minutes arguing with my rep's manager 'susan' over this and she still wouldn't see sense!

"Can you email me the quote please"

-Why do you need it?

"I would like to see the specification of what I'm buying"

-We can't give you a quote as that quote isn't valid (Don't ask - I'm playing off one department against another and was stupid enough to be honest with them )

"But your rep just offered it to me - if I take it will it be valid"

-Yes

"Well then can you email me the quote please"

-No

"Well I can't spend over £1500 without having the deal in writing"

-Well if you buy it then we'll send you the 'quote' (AKA order confirmation)

"Riiiiiiight"

This is the first time I've ever come across a company that refuses to provide you with a quote on the grounds that you might do something stupid like buy the product at that price. Would make me laugh if it weren't for the fact that I really wanted the laptop and was willing to give them the cash (well not Susan - but her friends in another department for an even nicer discount - and the stupid thing is the other department sent me the Spec and Quote via email without my even asking just to make sure everything was alright! - You'll never guess which department was based in Europe and which was based a little further East... ;) ) 'Susan' - sure it is love - and I'm Bilboa!

(Fixed with a patch from Tech support...

3rd Boot

Needless to say none of the 'would you like me to check online for a solution' actually ended with a solution, but at least Vista got to use up my bandwidth while annoying me!

Anyway - this was all actually a good thing - none of it is serious - but I phoned up and whinged and got £100 refunded to my card :D

I can't wait to rip out the 5400 hdd in there and replace it with a new Seagate Momentus 7200.2, if only I could find some in stock! Installing games is sooooooooo slow!

One other thing - since it's a 7950GTX I take it it uses the standard Vista drivers - not the mobile ones?
