Mobile broadband options?

Hey, just moved into some student accommodation (halls), but there are no phone lines in the rooms. So my only option with regards to internet, as far as I'm aware, is to use a mobile broadband dongle?

Now, I've had a gander at most of the isps I know of, 02, three, virgin etc., but they all seem to have 1GB download limits, and a few which have a 15GB download limit have 18 month contracts. Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere that might have something along the lines of a 1 month rolling contract, with a decent download limit.

I stream a lot of videos, as well as play games so I can imagine a 1GB DL getting eaten up in no time!

Cheers for any help, borgia.

What? Usually student accommodation either already have broadband access there with an RJ-45 socket on the wall for you to just plug in an Ethernet cable and use it.. Alternatively there would either be a phone socket or Virgin cable could already be there? I can't imagine any student accommodation with no broadband access. I am excluding Mobile broadband as it isn't really a suitable student broadband connection.

It's unlikely that there would be a phone line or virgin cable there, but most halls have a data connection. What uni/halls are you in??

Its nursing accommodation in bridgend built over 30 years ago, and there is no sockets of any kind in the rooms, or the communal living area. Everyone I've spoken to has a mobile dongle, but they're all on contracts like I mentioned :/

I would have a look at the MiFi products they all now seem to offer, it is essentially a portable WiFi router in a sense.. But rather it operates based on the network's signal of course.

The best looking plans are 5GB monthly allowance, £49.99 upfront fee, £15.99 per month... Although 5GB is still nothing.

You are only going to get the half-decent deals on 18/24 month contracts..

Not much really. Other than it acts as a WiFi access point so more than 1 device can connect. So you could have your phone, laptop/PC and games console for instance all connected to the same 'MiFi' adapter.. :)

would just add, mifi adapters would be much better. You dont have to mess about with software. We are moving away from vodafone dongles and getting vodafone mifi adapters, very messy software.

Also look for an unlocked mifi , and check out giff gaff (google it) they use 02 (may be cheaper)
