Are there any Pay as you Go Mobile Broadband deals out there which are OK for using while abroad?
I want to take my netbook to Portugal on holls, but I don't want to be charged £5 for every MB
this seems a bit of a rip off considering the EU is always banging on about making everything equal and
all that. Especially when it comes to mobile operators.

Do you think we will see a mobile broadband 'pay as you go' which, is actually 'pay as you go', by that
I mean like the phones are in the UK where the credit doesn't expire (or at least lasts 3 months)
rather than the current mobile broadband in which credit only lasts for a week, month etc. This isnt
really 'pay as you go' is it. Its just another way or selling a contact plan without the commitment,
because you still would have to pay for the next week, month regardless of your usage, to continue.
(No flaming please I know I - dont have to take it up the next month) but still. Any thoughts?

Im looking into this for a friend. The conclusion so far has been that you need to get a mobile broadband contract/payasyougo in the country youre visiting, or be raped by ridiculous bandwidth charges. Sucks quite badly that, let me know if you find anything better
(especially if it involves Turkey, which doesn't appear to know what broadband is)

mobile broadband is amazing but too expensive for me at present given the bandwidth limits

We have a selection of O2 broadband modems at work that our project managers use while abroad (Norway, Dubai, New Zealand etc)

If they were to use them "out of the box" then the costs would be huge, but we purchase additional Bolt On usage allowances for other countries of up to 50 meg from our O2 account manager that are then appliend to the O2 modems SIM number. This is much cheaper and works very well for us. An additional 50 meg of usage abroad = 50 pounds iirc

My mother is retiring to Turkey and she lives half in the UK and half over there, only staying here while she sells her property over here...

She asked me the very same questions and I told her pretty much what Shaolin Dreams says.

DONT BOTHER - FIND A WIFI SPOT and / or a CyberCafe... Her estage agent has WiFi so thats her best bet.

For once, the United Kingdom is actually fairly ahead when it comes to mobile broadband, we have some cracking deals and a decent penetration. This is helped by us living on a densely populated rock which makes rolling out this technology more cost effective.

The problem with this is that it's hard to find a competetive foreign data provider for the same kind of money you'd be paying over here.

Im on vodafone with a business contract and we have a £8 per day abroad providing you dont go over 50mb in that period.
