Just setup a 3 mobile broadband connection purely as an experiment to test possibilty of using it for some online gaming which i've always missed out on due to no availability of phone line broadband at my address,is it viable with these results?

Have been using satellite broadband for years which offers good download speeds but upload and ping are terrible and completely rule out online games. I don't expect to be able to play shooters but MMORPG's may be possible on the mobile connection. I can probably improve speeds by relocating dongle higher up on the property,I may even try it at the highest point of the house. Any thoughts appreciated, cheers.

Just blue tacked the dongle to the window:D and got the following, higher ping but better up and down.If I could get the thing up on the gable end I reckon we could see some good results, will need a few active usb cables for that idea though.

I can play MMOs using my T mobile 3G, however it keeps on losing 3G signal too frequently and dropping to GPRS which is annoying :(

I need to rescan for the 3G network too often.

Hi mate, what sort of speed test results do you get when on 3g? I haven't noticed my connection slipping to GPRS. It's usually HSPA or 3g.

I used to use my t-mobile Hsdpa dongle for Wow, worked a treat and had less problems than when I was on o2 access. Except I had to pretty much sit my laptop in the window

Been having real problems with this service today. Download rates have fallen from those posted above to between 0.5 and 1.0Mb,it almost seems as though my provider '3' have throttled the speeds, the fall off coincided with me going over 1GB data usage, the tarriff is 15GB a month but it seems to me as though they throttle speeds after the first GB. I've spoken to them about it and they're adamant that it's not their policy to do this. I'll give it a couple of days and if no improvement i'll be cancelling it!

Christ! I wish I lived in a cabled area, ****ing mobile and satellite broadband is seriously crap! B.T should pull their fingers out and get some kind of phoneline BB connection working here, instead they concentrate on making already fast connections faster. I've got a phoneline so why no Broadband? I'm 10k from the exchange but so what! BB is supposed to work over longer reaches than that.

If anyone here works for BT,why in this so called technologically advanced age of ours are properties with perfectly good phone lines still unable to have a working Broadband connection! if the line isn't good enough then rip it out and put a fibre optic one in,i'm sure though with line analysis, improvement/maintenance such drastic action wouldn't be required to get BB synced at my phone socket.

Also should I be paying similar line rental to a BT customer with a working BB connection,I obviously have an inferior line so shouldn't that be reflected in line rental charges?

Rant end,off to smash something into many pieces, now where's that ****ing Dongle!:D

they def do not throttle it. I have one and always use well over 5gb and get constant 2mb speeds. Couldnt say about the upload or ping though

What else could cause such a drop off in speeds though? Signal is strong, ususally 4/5 bars of hspa. Have tried it in 2 seperate systems with same results so it's def not a setup fault. Will give them the benefit of the doubt for a few days but something seems very fishy to me!

Phoned 3's customer support to discuss the matter and after a bit of a conflab I was promised a call back within 1 hour from the team leader/manager who apparently was busy at the time,3 hours later and no call.Tossers!
